This International Women's Day, let's raise a fist ✊ for the Notorious Ruth Bader Ginsburg! Ruth Bader Ginsburg wasn't just a judge, she was a warrior for #equality who chipped away at a legal system built by and for men. Imagine a time when graduating top of your class at Columbia Law (like RBG did) meant struggling to find a teaching job, simply because you were a woman. She faced constant bias in a courtroom that had never seen a woman. But Ginsburg didn't flinch. She argued case after case before the Supreme Court, dismantling discriminatory laws piece by piece. Today, let's challenge the "normal" that RBG fought against. Let's get to a world where brilliant women aren't exceptions, they're the standard. A world where every boardroom, courtroom, and government hall echoes with the voices of #womenleading the way. Is there a history-making woman who lights your fire? Share her story! Let's use our voices together to create a future where #equality isn't a dream, it's reality. We can build a world where all genders have a seat at the table, with #equalpower to shape the world. #InternationalWomensDay #Equality #Empowerment #ShatterTheCeiling

Sustainability Advocate | Attorney | Lawyer | Leader Passionate about Business Ethics, Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility
The first two women to become Justices of the U.S. Supreme Court, Sandra Day O'Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, are the focus of today's post commemorating #womenwhoinspire in celebration of Women's History Month and International Women's Month. Both justices broke the glass ceiling in their respective legal careers before reaching the highest court of the land, and Justice Ginsburg made a career of championing women's rights after graduating from my alma mater Columbia Law School and also while teaching at the law school. All of us female lawyers in the United States stand on their shoulders. Here are some of their most memorable quotes to reflect upon this Sunday: ⭐ "Do the best you can in every task, no matter how unimportant it may seem at the time. No one learns more about a problem than the person at the bottom." -- Sandra Day O'Connor ⭐ "Society as a whole benefits immeasurably from a climate in which all persons, regardless of race or gender, may have the opportunity to earn respect, responsibility, advancement and remuneration based on ability." --Sandra Day O'Connor ⭐ "We don't accomplish anything in this world alone... and whatever happens is the result of the whole tapestry of one's life and all the weavings of individual threads form one to another that creates something." --Sandra Day O'Connor ⭐ “Fight for the things that you care about. But do it in a way that will lead others to join you.” --Ruth Bader Ginsburg ⭐ “Whatever you choose to do, leave tracks. That means don’t do it just for yourself. You will want to leave the world a little better for your having lived.” --Ruth Bader Ginsburg ⭐"Women belong in all places where decisions are being made. It shouldn’t be that women are the exception.” -- Ruth Bader Ginsburg #womenwhoinspire #femaleempowerment #genderequality #genderdiversity #sdg5 #sdg10 #socialsustainability #GlobalGoals

I am a Law graduate currently doing a PhD at the University of Teramo, with a project on gender online hate speech and its influence on the political participation of women.
I am thrilled to share my latest article about the principle of #equality in Marta Nussbaum's philosophy and how her #capability approach can be applied to get a new approach regarding politics. You can download it from here: Forum part 2, page 971: https://lnkd.in/dm49ieC3

“You cannot be what you cannot see”. Today marks the beginning of Race Equality Week, and one of the common phrases we hear when discussing the issue of representation is "you cannot be what you cannot see". This phrase highlights that visibility can be inspiring, motivating, and that having diverse role models is important. However, it is crucial to remember that the absence of a visible path does not limit your potential. There have been and continue to be trailblazers who defy this notion. Individuals from ethnically diverse backgrounds have broken down barriers and continue to do so. We are still seeing people be the 'first', proving that potential transcends the limitations of visibility. We should continue to push for greater representation, but also remember that you can be what you cannot see; and by doing so, you become that representation for others. ✨

T/W - Racism and misogynism We cannot sit back without commenting on the recent news that came to light in relation to the comments made about Diane Abbott by a certain individual. We do not wish to name him as we do not want to give him the coverage he desires. We will also not repeat what has been said as most as probably well aware of the degrading, racist, misogynist comments that were made towards Diane in recent times. This news highlights that women still need to fight for equal respect in the world in general, not just in law and politics. This is a stark reminder that despite our collective efforts towards equality, these discriminatory attitudes still find a breeding ground in the hearts and minds of some individuals. Whether you support Labour or not, this situation sheds light on the challenges faced by women in politics. Misogynistic attitudes often manifest in attempts to undermine female politicians, focusing on their appearance, tone of voice, or personal lives rather than their qualifications and policies. Such tactics not only hinder the progress of individual women but also perpetuate the notion that politics is a domain reserved for men. Beyond high-profile incidents like the one involving Diane Abbott, racism persists in more insidious forms. Microaggressions, subtle yet harmful comments or behaviours, continue to plague the everyday experiences of minorities. From being overlooked for job opportunities to facing prejudiced assumptions in social interactions, ethnic minorities navigate a landscape where their worth is constantly questioned due to their race. We are so proud to have a community of powerful, brave, inspiring women, including those who come from ethnic minorities. We are honoured to support and empower all women in law, whilst being a catalyst for a more equitable, respectful society. As we continue to strive for a more equitable society, it's imperative that we confront these issues head-on, both in our public discourse and in our everyday interactions. Only through collective effort and unwavering commitment can we hope to dismantle the entrenched systems of oppression that continue to divide us. #legalsisterhood #womeninlaw #news

I recently came across this post on social media that discouraged equality while promoting equity. I would like to share my thoughts on this topic with all of you. Equality is undeniably important as it ensures fairness and justice by providing everyone with the same opportunities. However, equity reminds us that true fairness isn't always achieved through uniform treatment. Sometimes, the situation demands that we address individual needs and circumstances differently to achieve true fairness. It's not about choosing between equality and equity but understanding when each is appropriate to ensure justice prevails in every situation. #equity #equality #justice
