Information on attacks in CARICOM and Caribbean nations and islands is very difficult to obtain (if any exists at all) and we have decided to share this information with other researchers and the public. The names of organizations are not disclosed but the groups responsible and the sectors affected are listed for each affected country within the specified regions. Elite Investigator | Fraud, Financial Crime, Compliance, Integrity, Cyber & Security Risk Advisor | Ex-Big 4 Forensic Leader
Not only is the Philippines in the middle of a cyber crime and online fraud / scam explosion, cyber attacks aimed at critical national infrastructure and government entities have also experienced a four fold rise in the last 12 months. Targets included government (80%) and educational institutions (20%) and the attacks are combined with a disinformation campaign designed to discredit the current administration. Geopolitical tensions in the region have been suggested as one of the potential root causes but nonetheless, it’s safe to say that much more needs to be done to raise cybersecurity awareness both within government and the public - at the moment we seem to be an easy target. Thanks to Alexander Rogan for bringing this article to my attention. #cybercrime #fraud #scam #online #cybersecurity #awareness #investigations #security #cyberdefense #philippines #china #southchinasea

Amidst rising tensions with China in the South China Sea, Resecurity has observed a significant spike in malicious cyber activity targeting the Philippines in Q1 2024, increasing nearly 325% compared to the same period last year. The cyberattacks consist of a combination of hack and leak (55%), distributed denial-of-service (10%), and misinformation and influence campaigns (35%), according to researchers at Resecurity who have been following the campaigns. The main targets are government (80%) and educational institutions (20%) in the Philippines, and these attacks — on police agencies, government ministries, and universities — and associated data leaks are sowing discontent in the country, according to the researchers. This represents a four-fold (325%) increase in what the researchers identify as malicious cyber-espionage activity targeting the Philippines in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period last year. "The goal of this activity is to discredit the government and create chaos via cyberspace, as the Philippine population also relies on digital media channels and is active on social media networks," says Shawn Loveland, COO of Resecurity. https://lnkd.in/d4ECTuCf #darkweb #darkwebmonitoring #cybersecurity #cyberespionage #cyberrisk #cyberriskmanagement #cybercrime #cybercriminals #criticalinfrastructure #government #ddos #cyberthreatintelligence #threatintelligence #hacktivists #geopolitics #indopacific #propaganda #misinformation

#VaptWithAnmol A "disinfection operation" has been started by French law enforcement in association with Europol to purge infected hosts of PlugX, a known malware. According to Parquet de Paris, the Paris Prosecutor's Office, the program began on July 18 and is anticipated to last for "several months." It went on to say that the cleanup operations have already helped almost a hundred victims who were spread over France, Malta, Portugal, Croatia, Slovakia, and Austria. This news occurs about three months after the September 2023 disclosure by the French cybersecurity firm Sekoia that it had paid $7 to get the IP address of a command-and-control (C2) server that was connected to the PlugX malware. Additionally, it said that every day, about 100,000 different public IP addresses send PlugX queries to the confiscated domain. #security #securityawareness #knowledgesharing #learning #growth #vapt #penetrationtesting #vulnerability
