You will feel summertime sadness if you reduce your price. Recently, our client was told to reduce the quality of their product to a 5 out of 10 and reduce the price. Using the Discovery approach to understand how much their client needed to sell and what was missing to get there. (Gap selling, thank you, Keenan). One of the main issues was "no sales people." It seems like almost every day Cliff is calling with news of another big job he got for us, and we had to add mixers and drivers to keep up with all the work he gained us. Hector Salazar has been working for Classic Distributing since 1997, and in that time, he has seen Classic change, grow, and evolve more than almost anybody else on our team. Here are some of his insights: Q1: What inspired you to join Classic Distributing, and how has your role evolved over the past 27 years? A1: “Simply put, I needed a job and Classic was hiring. I started in the warehouse, where I handled the daily duties of shipping/receiving. Over the years, I’ve moved up from the warehouse to company driver.” 🚚 Q2: What do you think sets Classic Distributing apart as a workplace, and what makes it special to you? A2: “Working for a small family business has its perks. They can better accommodate their employees’ needs, making each employee feel heard and appreciated.” 🏢 Q3: What advice would you give to new employees just starting their journey at Classic Distributing? A3: “Always put your best foot forward and pay attention to detail. There’s always something to be done when there is downtime. Use your time wisely. One of my close friends in Minnesota texted me yesterday that his friend was looking to get into logistics. My friend doesn’t know anything about logistics, but knows I work in it so he asked if I could call his friend. We talked on the phone, super smart guy who has a MBA, 9 years of sales experience, and a lot of construction sales experience. Obviously I told him the agent path wouldn’t be a good move since you don’t have brokerage experience, but I was able to give him a break down of the w2 companies in minneapolis and refer him to some that will be good based on pay, culuture, location, etc. We also talked about what a day looks like. He was extremely grateful for that call. I think the reason a lot of people end up in these bad comp plans, bad culuture, strict nc competes companies is because they don’t know any better. Every company tells perspective candiates they are the best, and then by the time people realize they aren’t they are bound by restricve covenants. Started a presentation this week telling a story about shoe salesmen in the 1900's... It might have been a silly decision, it might have been a good one. Who knows. I wanted to do something a little different and I'm proud I did. I was out of my comfort zone anyway so why not commit and try to be a bit different I figured. P.S - I don't sell shoes. P.P.S - The story was about perspective, and how it's so key. I related it to the housing sector in that we're facing huge challenges at the moment and we can either be all defeatist about it or see it as an opportunity to really change how we do things and shape the future. P.P.P.S - Anybody interested in shaping the new future for building management in housing give me a shout - I'm keen to link up.

You’re gonna need a bigger… lorry Here’s a snapshot of our final deliveries leaving on the last afternoon of January. We had just filled an artic vehicle and then had to move onto this rigid lorry. It made us think of the famous line from the 1975 movie Jaws – “You’re gonna need a bigger boat”. Thankfully, we had one (kind of)! Sales-wise, it was an excellent day. As we were loading, an urgent request for some CurTec 3.6L Red Tops arrived. As you know, the red tops are one of my favourite products. You might recall my red Vs blue top post. Well, soon we’ll be seeing them in fetching new black tops, I’ll post some pics soon. Last week was particularly busy, as we needed to get lots of stock out of the door. Stock turnover is a key driver for the business. Fast stock turnover improves our ordering and storage efficiencies. It also keeps our stock fresh and most importantly – generates profits! To date, PurePac sales have resulted only from organic reactive growth. But we have a plan. To progress the business, we are appointing a Customer Relationship Manager. The new role focuses on ensuring our existing customers are happy and also securing sales from existing and new customers. I’ll post updates on this exciting news in March 😎
