As help desk or service desk engineers, we are dedicated to maintaining the CIA triad (Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability) at an infrastructure level, thereby fostering a secure environment. Employees in these roles are invaluable to the cybersecurity industry because they are often the first line of defense. They identify and mitigate threats early, ensuring the stability and security of the organization's IT infrastructure. Despite their critical role, help desk and service desk professionals are often undervalued. Leadership should recognize the potential of these individuals and consider molding them into cybersecurity roles within the organization, rather than seeking external talent.
