Children and youth in the foster care and juvenile justice systems are too often forgotten, neglected, abused, criminalized, and dismissed. Today is #GivingTuesday, a day where we reflect on our shared humanity and generosity. We have the power to collectively address these big issues by supporting organizations like the Youth Law Center in San Francisco that champion and uplift the rights of children and youth. When you donate to Youth Law Center for GivingTuesday, you’re supporting an organization that for 45 years has been using the law as a tool to fight for our children in foster care and juvenile justice systems across the country while building better systems with their guidance. #juvenilejustice #fostercare #fostercareawareness #legaladvocacy #civilrights

It is building a new, more nuanced narrative that emphasizes empathy over blame and policy solutions over criminalization. We discuss the #Lab’s #newest #report, #conducted #with #the #National #Homelessness #Law #Center, that #probes #public #perceptions #of and #experiences #with #homelessness. The fact that so #many #respondents #know #homelessness #up #close is foundational to a powerful new movement for change."

I also want to highlight another org I will be supporting this Colorado Gives Day Latina SafeHouse https://lnkd.in/gtAfnPyc 1 in 3 Latinas are survivors of domestic violence. 2022 was the deadliest year in Colorado for victims of domestic violence. Domestic violence does not discriminate. It impacts each and every one of us. In 2022, 37% of homicide victims were Latina, even though we only make up roughly 20% of Colorado. We need to support our community and provide much needed direct services as well as community outreach and education. Given the rise in domestic violence and the rise in the severity of cases, we are asking you to please help us support survivors and help us end these vicious generational cycles of violence. Please invest in survivors. Invest in families. Invest in a healthy community. Invest in Latina SafeHouse. #GivingTuesdaycampaign #SupportSurvivors #investinourcommunity #enddomesticviolence #ColoradoGives #niunamas2023

Opinion: A call to action to solve New York’s criminalization of homelessness -- The way out of this crisis is to codify a right to housing. NY based NHLC Staff Attorney, Siya H., joins organizers, Lynn Lewis and Rob Robinson, in identifying that New York has "the resources to solve our city’s #housingcrisis. New York City spends billions each year to manage, rather than solve, #homelessness. The cost of shelters, jails, and caring for the inevitable health complications of people experiencing homelessness, as well as the lack of stable educational infrastructure for #unhousedyouth, all exact a human and financial cost."
