I usually get questions like is there any openings in my team or company? The answer is no. Software engineers usually don’t know about the openings in the company. There is a separate department which is responsible for recruiting and hiring. At least this is the case in big tech companies. But I will be sharing the official and my favourite way of getting to know about the recent job openings. So the only legitimate place to get to know about latest openings is the company’s careers page. Here is the simple 3 step algorithm to get to know about each job opening in your email directly from the company official website: 1- Go to any search engine of your choice and type <company name> career page. For example: https://lnkd.in/g_Ka893Q 2- Choose the job category and location in which you want to apply. For example: https://lnkd.in/ggEjKzsy 3- Turn on the job alerts or subscribe to the careers page. For example: https://lnkd.in/gTrwWa_q Now all the job notifications will come directly to your email. Let me know in comments how you find job openings.

90% of software devs I interviewed give wrong answers when asked why they should hire them. - “I’m looking for a job” - “I’m interested working with x, y, z technologies” - “I'm passionate about x and I need stability so I can grow in my field” I know it sounds harsh… But no one cares. We are selfish creatures. And same applies to businesses. You are being interviewed because they have a problem to fix, not you. Try this next time. - “You are solving x, y, z and I can be an amazing asset to your org because I have done similar to x, y, z in the past” - “Here is how my previous work experience can be huge asset and help push forward your company’s mission forward using a, b, c” - “I read online about some of the negative customer reviews about your x, y, z feature, and here is how I can help with that…” Think about why this position is open, and in what ways can you help them solve that pain. And watch the interview dynamics switch from one-way interrogation to a consulting-like brainstorming session.

As announced yesterday, here is my first post on hiring. This one will focus on the technical skills. Let's jump straight in... ⛹️🏻 Testing tech skills is important. Experience isn't measured in years but in exposure and engagement. Ideally, the two are strongly correlated. However, particularly in software, your environment and personality have a large impact on how fast you gain experience. So, a resume will never be quite enough to gauge experience. 🦸♀️ Tech skills might not be the most important. Tech skills can be learnt. If you have the drive and your talents align well enough, you will learn what you need to. It's much harder for an introvert to learn to speak to clients or for an extrovert to let other people have a turn. So, many soft skills are much more important to bring to the table from day one. So, think about what your candidate will need to be able to do other than solving technical problems. 🚣♀️ You need both people who fit in and those who rock the boat. If you want your team to be successful, don't always look for the "perfect fit" who thinks your technical solutions are on point. You need to balance it very carefully but a few people who rock the boat keep your team from nodding off and missing opportunities. Just don't assemble a whole team of trouble makers. Calling all my engineering friends and connections! We're looking for two great people to join our team. If these core values speak to you, consider applying to join our growing team: Hardest work, best work. A challenge is motivating, even when it’s a little scary. Working through hard challenges is what makes us grow. Speed over perfection. We move fast and have a bias for action. We’re quick to spot issues, pivot without hesitation, and move quickly to drive forward. We tolerate the occasional mistake in exchange for speed. Face challenge head on. We’re not afraid of hard conversations. We say the things that feel uncomfortable to say to address the issue and get to the other side of the problem. We do so with positive intent and an open mind. Humble in abundance, optimistic in adversity. In good times, we remind ourselves (and each other) that we’re never done learning, growing, and improving. In hard times, we force ourselves (and each other) to keep the long-term vision in mind. Failure is a timeline issue: with iteration and effort, you can always find a way to success. Diverse perspective, unified success. We seek out diversity because diverse teams are the most successful teams. We have a high tolerance for working alongside others who come with different perspectives, backgrounds, and areas of expertise. We approach every interaction with team members as an opportunity to see something in a different light.
We're looking to add a Principal Engineer and a Full Stack Engineer to our team ASAP! Want to help build a product that will delight our customers? Love remote work? Enjoy a challenge? We'd love to talk to you. Links below for both!

"It shows there is over 200 applicants on the advert on LinkedIn" NOT ALL APPLICANTS ARE CANDIDATES On an average job advert for a Software Engineering position only around 5% of applicants will be suitable for the role. Lots of developers I speak to are being put off applying for positions because they have a very high number of applicants. Just remember there is probably only a handful of people in the process at most! So if you match the role 75% or more I would always advise to apply. Devs, what do you think? Does it put you off applying when you see a high number of applicants? Let me know in comments ⬇️ #techhiring #jobads #linkedinjobs
