Thrilled to announce that Scott Butler and Leah Solomon will be presenting at NATEAC 2024, alongside Daniel Jentzen from Boston Arts Academy! Our session Providing Access for Future Artists | The Boston Arts Academy, will address accessibility from three perspectives: providing broad community access to the design process, designing impactful solutions, and fostering future artists, designers, and architects. Looking forward to seeing many friends & colleagues in Brooklyn, NY! NATEAC (North American Theatre, Engineering, and Architecture Conference) was first produced in 2008. Since then, it has been bringing together the architects, engineers, consultants, and manufacturers who are responsible for designing, building, and renovating theaters. This year, the conference is focusing on ACCESS! #NATEAC2024 #TheatreEngineering #InnovativeDesign #Theatre4All

Check out the ideas that emerged from our roundtable 'Public Art: Not Just a Nice To Have' below and read the summary at https://lnkd.in/erAY8dn7 👇
"Public art is a way of bringing people along the journey” This month UP Projects and Sheppard Robson Architects hosted a roundtable event that explored the positive role that art and artists can play in shaping places, including engaging communities and contributing social value. The roundtable challenged the idea that public art is just a “nice to have”; frequently being commissioned as an afterthought or because it has been stipulated as a planning condition. You can now read a summary of the conversation that brought professionals from across public art, architecture, private development and local authority sectors together to discuss what changes are required to foreground the value of public art. 🔑 Key considerations include timing, rethinking ideas of permanence and valuing process-driven approaches. 📄 Read it at: https://lnkd.in/eVcQvaqH Jo Baxendale Clarissa Bromelle FRSA Zerritha Brown FRSA Dan Burr Synthia Griffin Dann Jessen Moira Lascelles Adriana Marques Kevin McGeough Philippine Nguyen Olaide Oboh Jessica Reynolds Anna Shapiro Ian Taylor Emma Underhill Debbie Whitfield Emma Wilcox #publicart

"Inhabiting Time" is the concluding presentation of Korean curator Somi Sim’s year-long collaboration with Breguet. Placing chronological and architectural space in dialogue, this final revolution of the clock sees Sim engage with how people singly and collectively experience time. In this video, Sim explains how the display for Frieze Los Angeles, featuring the work of artists Gordon Matta-Clark and a new commission by People’s Architecture Office, responds to "the very intimate human relationship we have to time." Each edition of the collaboration has focused on a different dimension of time and each has featured two artists. "My reason for approaching artists in pairs for each exhibition is to approach time from multiple perspectives," explains Sim. "I have curated the exhibitions as a dialogue between two artists, with the connection to Breguet forming the triangle." Decolonization of Museum Architecture: This publication delves into the evolving role of museums as spaces for inclusive narratives, examining how architecture can contribute to the process of decolonization. Through case studies and critical analysis, it explores the ways in which museum design can challenge colonial legacies, embrace indigenous voices, and create environments that foster dialogue and cultural engagement. The aim is to rethink museum spaces not only as repositories of history but as active participants in shaping a more equitable future. #museumarchitecture #museumdecolonization

A beautiful application of restorative practices in the architecture space. Thinking of Designing Justice + Designing Spaces (https://lnkd.in/eDEZqTTd) as I read this.
Have you heard of Restorative Practices in Architecture? 🏛️ The Kansas City Museum has recently unveiled a renovation plan for the museum’s historic Beaux Arts conservatory, which will transform into the "JewelHouse" conservatory, "a site-responsive architectural meditative space that celebrates and pays tribute to women."⭐🌙 ☀️ "JewelHouse will house educational and public programs to highlight untold stories of women across generations, through storytelling, music, dance, panels and more.” Read the full article here! https://bit.ly/3tn7JQz #IIRP #RestorativePractices #KansasCityMuseum #RPinArchitecture

Public art, often misperceived as merely murals, encompasses diverse forms that significantly enhance our communities. We'll explore inspiring examples from both the public and private sectors, discuss the roles of government initiatives like Percent for Art, and consider public art's impact on quality of life, economic vitality, and cultural identity. Our discussion will address the challenges of public processes, the debate over art versus fabrication, and envision innovative formats for Las Vegas. Key topics include setting requirements for featuring public art in various spaces, strategies for engaging public officials, and ways to shift public perceptions to elevate our entire city through art. Don’t miss this enlightening conversation! Register here: https://lnkd.in/gGY5r8qT

We are delighted to present our forthcoming scenographic work. This exhibit aims not only to display historical remnants but also to engage visitors in a thoughtful dialogue surrounding the complex narratives of our shared past. Located within a space rich with controversy, our exhibition harnesses the inherent tensions and complexities surrounding the representation of colonial history. The chosen venue, known for its contentious nature, serves as a thought-provoking backdrop that challenges traditional norms of museum display and encourages critical reflection. Central to our exhibition's design is the use of the stripe principle, a concept that has sparked debate within the realm of historical restoration. Rather than shying away from this polemic topic, we have embraced it as the cornerstone of our architectural framework. The stripe principle, traditionally a subject of contention, has been ingeniously integrated into our layout, becoming the very essence that guides visitors through our collection. This deliberate choice transforms controversy into a provocative force, engaging audiences in an unconventional yet immersive journey.#adhocpractice #hanoiadhoc
