Great to have Dan James from Mind in Somerset pop in to the NFU Mutual Williton agency office this morning. As part of the NFU Mutual's Agency Giving Fund 2024 we donated £3254.50 to this wonderful local charity. Mind in Somerset has a core purpose to provide services & support to anyone affected by mental illness, improving their quality of life & well being. Free and localised mental health support from healthcare professionals is a rare thing. Most of my generation rely on apps and the internet. Piecing together diagnoses from wellbeing articles, Google searches, questionnaires, podcasts and therapy delivered in 60-second form. Now that's not to say I don't love a day spent sifting for gold in the algorithm. I just figure it'd probably be better if I could talk to someone about it. And if that support had been available to me at a young age. YPCS - Young People's Counselling Service is a charity that delivers just this for children and young people across Cambridgeshire between 11 and 18. Free and localised mental health support, delivered by healthcare professionals in the community. More than 800 young people were supported by the charity last year - with a lot of its work being carried out in rural communities like Yaxley, Wisbech and across Fenland, as well as Peterborough. Today, YPCS is fundraising to keep its doors open. As awareness of mental health and demand for mental health provision both soar, those facilities that already exist are struggling. As a trustee, I would love to spend time understanding how that is, but the most pressing issue right now is keeping this vital local resource open to its community. So can you help us?
