Dole Food Company, a global leader in fresh produce, has expanded its shipping services to the Port of Wilmington, Delaware, launching a new weekly vessel service starting December 31, 2023. This move reflects Dole's commitment to meeting the rising demand for tropical fruits in the Northeast United States.
Two 1,200 FEU container vessels, MV Robin-2 and MV Robin-5, will operate on a 14-day rotation, transporting Dole-branded bananas, pineapples, dragon fruit, mangoes, and limes from Colombia, Honduras, and Guatemala.
The Port of Wilmington, known for its expertise in handling perishable goods, will see a significant increase in truckloads for refrigerated carriers in the Northeast. This expansion by Dole is expected to boost refrigerated services and hopefully lead to higher spot volumes and better rates.
Currently, the outbound refrigerated spot rate from the Baltimore market, including Wilmington, DE, is $2.04, showing a slight decrease from the previous week. Despite this, there's been a notable increase in refrigerated spot volume, with the highest spot volumes recorded since September from this market.
