Tarunjeet Rattan Absolutely. It's like a doctor charging for consultation. They charge for their expertise and knowledge exchange. Whether you take their opinion or change your mind later, whether you buy the pills they prescribe, or don't get the tests done they have advised, has nothing to do with their fee. They charge for their time (both present and past time investment they have made to have that kind of expertise and credibility). It's so common, especially in the Indian market where the competition is steeply high. Many agencies are competing for a brand-win with bare minimum profit margins. Brands shamelessly ask for pitches, plans, designs, and opinions, and "never getting back" seems like a norm not to feel guilty about, at all. If agencies start charging for pitches, brands being judicious of their money, will be much more appreciative of agencies' time, giving "creative thinking & creative process" the respect it truly deserves.
