From brave immigrants to native peoples, their stories are woven into our nation’s fabric. 🌎 🎉 Celebrating Asians Coming Together (ACT) ACT is an Employee Resource Group that was founded in 1968. ACT creates awareness of Asian contributions, promotes professional development, and enhances an understanding of Asian culture at Xerox. 👏 Trailblazers and Achievers AAPI individuals have made significant strides in various fields. Leaders like Vice President Kamala Harris, Ambassador Katherine Tai, and Dr. Arati Prabhakar have shattered glass ceilings. 🚀 🙌 Addressing Challenges Despite their immense contributions, AAPI communities face challenges. The past few weeks have been a time of reflection. We’ve had the celebratory days of South Asian Heritage Month contrasted with racist and Islamophobic riots in the UK. A lot of personal thoughts and feelings have been stirred and for the first time, I had the chance to verbalise my own lived experience as a South Asian immigrant alongside a panel of Family Action colleagues. Recounting out loud some very difficult and vulnerable moments became more of a personal challenge than I had envisaged but with huge thanks to the compassionate colleagues at Family Action who join our events, actively listen, engage and share words of support, I have come out feeling more empowered to own my journey. I have a deeper appreciation for all the courageous speakers who share their experiences with such vulnerability, openness and strength in order for us all to learn and grow, including Ryan Lanji and Sathya Bala who recently led some incredible discussions with our staff for South Asian Heritage Month. Thank you 🙏🏽 Now more than ever, I understand the need for speakers – whether external or internal, paid or unpaid – to be given the support and flexibility to consider what aspects of their journey they are comfortable sharing and the best way and format for them to do so. The value of creating regular, safe, communal spaces for individuals to share, ask questions, learn and feel heard cannot be emphasised enough. Sharing and listening to one another’s stories helps to build empathy and understanding and bridge the divisions that still exist today. #livedexperience #EDI #DEI #diversity #inclusion #SAHM24 #SouthAsianHeritageMonth
