The Southern California Zero Emission Truck Infrastructure (ZETI) Study is charging ahead! 🚚⚡ We're working to create a regional network of zero-emission truck charging and fueling infrastructure by: 1️⃣ Developing a state-of-the-practice truck touring framework that produces a single source of information for loaded truck movements in 2020, 2030, 2035, and 2040 (including data from the Freight Analysis Framework, California Vehicle Inventory and Use Survey, and truck traffic counts)! 2️⃣ Partnering with Bin Wang to leverage Berkeley Lab's HEVI-LOAD energy modeling tool (enhanced by the loaded truck data table) to make critical connections between travel demand, energy capacity, and charging site selection for heavy and medium-duty trucks. Calibration of HEVI-LOAD is ongoing, but the tool is already showing promising results! It's great to see so many organizations collaborating to make this zero-emission network a reality. Yesterday's Commission on Transportation Revenue and Infrastructure Needs meeting offered valuable insights, though the discussions were complex. We delved into critical challenges facing Maryland's transportation sector, including the decline in gas tax revenues. The agenda commenced with a discussion on fees for electric and hybrid vehicles, featuring perspectives from Deron Lovaas of the Maryland Department of Transportation, Colleen Turner of Michael Baker International, and Chrissy Nizer from the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration. Following this, we explored tolling practices in Maryland, with contributions from Deborah Sharpless of the Maryland Transportation Authority, alongside Carrie Cook and Richard Duncan from the Maryland Department Of Legislative Services. I am eager to continue these dialogues to address these matters effectively and to secure a safe and thriving future for the residents of Maryland. #transportationindustry #infrastructureas #investment

Through the Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicle Program from the Inflation Reduction Act, municipalities will be eligible for funding to replace existing heavy-duty vehicles with clean, zero-emission vehicles and other related activities like zero-emission vehicle infrastructure, and workforce development & training. An important reminder: Infrastructure is a critical part of transitioning fleets to zero-emissions! While not an impossible task, it is something that needs to be thought about long before you receive your #ZEVs.
