A nice RCT demonstrating the effectiveness of preoperative cognitive training with a very significant reduction in postoperative delirium. The sample size was fairly small so worthy of further validation but a cheap, simple preoperative intervention that could potentially make a significant difference in the postoperative course https://lnkd.in/gTg6ReZQ

Kids with eosinophilic esophagitis (EOE) enjoy the phenomenon of virtual reality goggles during transnasal endoscopy (TNE), a new alternative to traditional esophagoscopies. Mayo Clinic Children's Center is one of just a few pediatric centers offering TNE, which is performed via the nasal passage while the patient is awake. It eliminates the need for kids to undergo prolonged fasting, sedation and an IV needle. The only downside, according to our patients? The in-office procedure takes just 10 minutes, so kids can return to school afterward. https://mayocl.in/3JJaal5

In a recent Surgical Streaming Society video, I'm performing a vertical peritomy prior to PST infusion of our block. This approach aims to minimize the transection of conjunctival vessels—a method inspired by insightful feedback from our community. Henry Hudson MD FACS FASRS David Goldblum Despite the benefits, one challenge persists: the use of blunt Wescott scissors tends to inadvertently widen the conjunctival wound. This leads me to a question for our innovative and resourceful network: Is there a smaller, narrower blunt-tipped scissors available that would allow us to create a narrow tunnel posteriorly without enlarging the peritomy? Your suggestions and recommendations would be invaluable as we strive to refine our techniques and reduce surgical trauma. If you have experience with alternative tools or techniques that could enhance this procedure, please share your insights. Let's continue to collaborate and innovate to improve our surgical outcomes! #SurgicalInnovation #Ophthalmology #SurgicalEducation #MedicalDevices #Peritomy #PSTInfusion #STYCHTV

⚠️ The impella heart pump is a device that offers ventricular support. ✅ This impella CP is placed across the aortic valve and into the left ventricle. The nice thing about this device is that it assists in direct left ventricular unloading and aids in forward flow. ✅ The impella CP in this clip pulls blood through the inlet (inside the LV) and transports it out through the outlet (in the aortic root). ✅ The impella RP is placed via the venous route (femoral vein in this clip) with the inlet sitting in the IVC and outlet in the main pulmonary artery. ✅This can be a very effective method in providing biventricular support. ✅ Typically this device will be used for high risk percutaneous coronary intervention, cardiogenic shock, and decompensated heart failure. . . . #medstudent #Cardiology #cardiologist #physicianassistant #Aprn #cardiologyfellow #cardiologist #medical #nurse #nursingstudent #hearthealth #heartdisease #heart #heartattack #cardiacnurse #nursepractitioner #cvicunurse #cathlab #cathlabnurse #medical #learn

Did you know that reactions to contrast media can be delayed from minutes to days or weeks later? What a fantastic opportunity to connect with and present to those on the cutting edge of resuscitation science and implementation! I’m excited to share my recent work on RXN Ready: Radiology Team Preparedness: Anaphylaxis to Arrest. This summer, the American College of Radiology updated its Manual on Contrast Media 2024, emphasizing the need for more on-site training everywhere contrast media is used. Over 100 million doses of contrast media are injected yearly, and although reactions are low-frequency, they can escalate from mild to severe and life-threatening within minutes. With the increased demand for imaging, #RXNReady was created to address this growing need for emergency preparedness in radiology, especially as more patients undergo CTs, MRIs, and echocardiograms. #ResuscitationScience #RadiologyPreparedness #HealthcareInnovation #ContrastMedia #PatientSafety #NurseLeaders #NurseApproved #RXNReady #HLTHUSA #ResuscitationReady
