🌊 Coastal ecosystems, such as mangroves and seagrass meadows, are vital players in climate mitigation. CIFOR-ICRAF's decades of research shed light on the critical role of these 'blue carbon' spaces. As interest grows globally in incorporating them into climate plans, our work stands as a beam of relevance. Dive into our recent findings without even getting your feet wet! ⬇️ https://bit.ly/3SL6h4t #wetlands #Trees4Resilience

I love this bold and thought-provoking new series from Terraformation — especially in this post-COP28 moment, when many in the climate space felt that counterproductive agendas were getting in the way of urgently needed climate action. This series cuts through that, amplifying the voices of those who have made "speaking for the trees" their life's work. It's a chance to sit down with those who have been in the trenches of climate action for years or decades and to ask, "Tell me the truth about what we need to do." Let's talk about agendas for a moment. The best thing about Terraformation, IMO — besides the amazing team — is the fact that it was started by a group of people who wanted to reforest our planet to fix our climate, and worked backwards from there to figure out what it would take. I know these guys. They could be working anywhere. But they've decided to keep working on this very difficult problem that, once solved, will deliver us a far better world. I hope you'll tune in to these voices and follow this series. As its editor, I was under strict instructions to let these authors express their ideas candidly, without applying some sort of Terraformation-specific filter. So I can tell you candidly, myself: these essays are the real deal. #climateaction #climatechange #WhoWillSpeakForTheTrees #realtalk #nbs #restoration #carbonfootprint #reforestation #globalheating #klimawandel #klima #changementclimatique #klimat #klimakrise

How can we reverse the empty promises of corporate net zero pledges? "You want to move the needle on climate change? Stop trying to be net zero this year. Start investing in large, scalable, new capacity to remove carbon from the atmosphere." Loving this collaborative series of forestry leaders explaining the true significance that sustainable forestry can have on our future generations!

What will you need to see before you take climate change seriously? My fear is that what most people will need to see, will mean that we are too late to find possible solutions.

Our 2024 recommended near year's resolution to you - Don't Go Net Zero. Ah, net zero, a term that solicits more groans than grins from executives because it aims to reduce GHG emissions and/or to ensure ongoing GHG are balanced by removals. For companies, that means growing pains to tweak business models. Many can't or won't because they aren't values aligned with climate positive initiatives in their day-to-day business operations. So let's drop the math and double down on what we can do more of -- your contribution to creating the capacity for more projects, more infrastructure, to remove lots of carbon.

📢 Excited to share my new publication! Check out this Infobrief on the impacts of REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) in the Peruvian Amazon, focusing on perspectives on well-being.🌳🌎 🌳To effectively implement REDD+ and its safeguards, it is essential to understand how local people judge co-benefits: their perspectives and priorities regarding well-being. 🌳This study highlights the positive and negative impacts of REDD+ implementation, providing insights for present and future forest-based climate change mitigation efforts. #REDD #PeruvianAmazon #CIFOR_ICRAF #GCS_REDD

Please join me at the North American Carbon World #NACW2024 conference in San Francisco on March 19 from 3:30-5 for a workshop on “Conservation Easements as Tools for Permanence and Quality in Forestry Projects: Fundamentals and Emerging Issues.” Conservation easements are becoming an increasingly relevant tool for high-integrity carbon projects, yet many of us have much to learn about how conservation easements work and relate to the varied protocols. This workshop will bring together expert panelists representing land trusts and technical consultants to share practical insights from the field in pairing conservation easements with carbon projects. Content will include a general overview of the mechanics of land trusts and conservation easements, highlight specific project types using conservation easements, and explore the varied roles played by land trusts in relation to carbon projects. Session attendees will have an opportunity for Q&A and to raise special topics of interest. Panelists include Marissa Spence, Climate Action Reserve; Ailla Wasstrom-Evans, Land Trust Alliance; Patricia Ruby, American Forest Foundation; Misti Schmidt, Conservation Partners LLP; and Jim Clark, NCRM, Inc. https://lnkd.in/eyRbHCb4 @climatereserve
