As March is B Corp month we wanted to share an update on Meadow Mission, an initiative that was born out of the accreditation process. Since 2021 we've donated 2% of turnover to create wildflower meadows, a vital habitat for bees with our charity partner Plantlife International. To date, with our customers help, we’ve planted over 20 acres! We've lost 98% of our wildflower meadows since the 1940's which is a vital habitat for honey bees as well as many other invertebrates, mammals, bats, and birds. Meadows also store carbon. There is some research suggesting that a flower-full meadow can store 30% more carbon than a flower-less meadow. As Black Bee Honey grows and requires more honey we need to ensure there's more biodiversity to support the bees producing it. This magnificent bird, soaring high in our skies, symbolizes freedom and strength. But not long ago, their very existence hung in a precarious balance. In the mid-20th century, the Bald Eagle population drastically plummeted, primarily due to the widespread use of the pesticide DDT, habitat destruction, and illegal shooting. Recognizing the critical situation, conservationists and the government sprang into action. With the ban of DDT in 1972 and the implementation of the Endangered Species Act, a significant turnaround began. 𝐋𝐞𝐭'𝐬 𝐊𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐦 𝐆𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠! As we commemorate National Save the Eagles Day, let's pledge to continue our support for these majestic birds. We all know that otters are special animals - not only are they wonderful animals to watch but they are great indicators to a healthy environment. And yet they are being exploited for commercial gain and in some places hunted almost to extinction. Their habitat is being destroyed and fish stocks depleted. And they are being killed on our roads.
