We’re staying green and winning gold at Westfields Hospital & Clinic! We recently earned our eighth Greenhealth Emerald award from Practice Greenhealth, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to environmental stewardship in health care. This award honors organizations that have shown commitment to improving environmental performance and advancing sustainable practices. And it’s not just us! HealthPartners earned 18 awards organization-wide, including its 10th consecutive Systems for Change award, and all eight hospitals received awards for showing dedication to sustainable practices. “A clean environment is an important foundation for health and well-being,” says Allison Egan, HealthPartners sustainability program manager. “These awards reflect the dedication, passion and support we have at our organization as we work to keep sustainability at the forefront of our efforts to move the health care industry forward.” Visit our news release to learn more: https://shorturl.at/rif0M

Both proud and maybe still a bit surprised by the publication of our recent analysis published in The BMJ, which explores the integration of environmental sustainability into healthcare quality frameworks. 🔔 This publication may signal that environmental considerations are becoming a part of routine discussions among clinicians and public health professionals. ❓ Could this be an indicator that we are moving toward large-scale health policies that consciously include environmental impacts in their decision-making processes? Thanks Michael Padget for the strong leadership on this! Guilhem M. I’m happy to share this recent article in the BMJ. Environmental sustainability in the health system has attracted recent national and international attention but real progress has been uneven. We argue that making environmental sustainability a component of health system quality, and incorporating it into health system quality frameworks, will support environmental progress by: ➡ Recognizing this topic as a health system priority on par with other goals rather than simply a “nice to have” ➡ Embedding environmental sustainability into work from existing groups that ensure quality such as healthcare inspectorates, funders, medical associations, and patient organizations ➡ Providing a multi-priority perspective useful in decision making around sustainability interventions An example of how this integration could work in practice is provided using the high quality health system framework. https://lnkd.in/eukU5ef9 Matthias Brunn, Margaret Kruk, Dionne Sofia Kringos - Pereira Martins,

This is going to be a tough one! The amount of plastic/paper waste in hospitals is a major issue. We can start by getting rid of all the paper wasted by printing preference sheets and booking forms. Chiefy is a platform that can do just that! Make your preference cards digital :) shift to Chiefy.

Sustainable Practices in Healthcare: Celebrating World Environment Day with the Galien Foundation Today, on World Environment Day, we at the Galien Foundation are proud to highlight the importance of sustainable practices in healthcare. As we strive to improve health outcomes, we must also ensure that our actions are environmentally responsible. Here are some key practices making a difference: 1. Energy Efficiency: Hospitals and healthcare facilities are adopting energy-efficient systems and renewable energy sources to reduce their carbon footprint. 2. Waste Reduction: Implementing robust recycling programs and reducing single-use plastics help minimize the environmental impact of medical waste. 3. Sustainable Sourcing: Choosing eco-friendly and ethically sourced medical supplies ensures that our procurement practices support environmental sustainability. 4. Green Building Design: Many healthcare institutions are incorporating green building designs that maximize natural light and use sustainable materials, enhancing both patient well-being and environmental health. 5. Telemedicine: By reducing the need for travel, telemedicine not only makes healthcare more accessible but also significantly cuts down on emissions. On this World Environment Day, let's commit to integrating these sustainable practices into our healthcare systems. Together, we can create a healthier planet and healthier lives. #WorldEnvironmentDay #Sustainability #Healthcare #GalienFoundation #GreenHealthcare #EcoFriendly #SustainablePractices
