Today is 25th November.   In 1999, the United Nations General Assembly declared 25th November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women to draw attention to the violence women face in their homes, on the streets, at school, and in the workplace, and to raise awareness in society about combating violence against women.   Such awareness days remain meaningful and beneficial as long as these issues persist. The #16DaysOfActivism is a global yearly campaign to end violence against women. It runs from Nov 25th to Dec 10th. The campaign's goals include:  1. Calling for action to prevent violence against women and girls  2. Holding perpetrators accountable  3. Investing in solutions to protect women and girls  4. Strengthening commitments to eliminate violence against women and girls #16DaysOfActivism #EndViolenceAgainst Women 

Today is #InternationalDayfortheEliminationofViolenceAgainstWomen. Violence against women and girls often goes unreported due to the silence and stigma surrounding it, especially within sports. Nearly 21% of professional women athletes experienced sexual abuse as children in sport—almost double the rate of male athletes at 11%. Recent research from Kick It Out found that 1 in 4 women reported feeling unsafe at football games. We are committed to eradicating all forms of discrimination from the game, promoting diversity and inclusion, and uniting everyone under the banner of sport. Violence against women should never take place, yet it remains one of the most significant barriers we face. At YWCA, we know that a huge part of this problem is the silencing of women’s experiences. This limits community support for sexual and gender-based violence, particularly violence against women, and prevents genuine transformative action. A profound sense of engagement, buy-in, and ownership is at the heart of any transformative action. That means women must be heard and be included in efforts to prevent more women from experiencing violence. To facilitate vulnerable sharing and collaborative action, we need Safe Spaces.
