"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed it's the only thing that ever has." Every great change in history started with just a few passionate individuals. In the UK, the Suffragette movement, led by women like Emmeline Pankhurst and her fellow activists, fought tirelessly for women's right to vote. Their courage and determination paved the way for gender equality and transformed British society forever. And changes to our society continue to be driven through today, often by charities who are at the arrowhead in terms of understanding the plight of particular groups...and what needs to be done to achieve the greatest impact. The thing is, the incredible frontline work that is carried out 24/7, 365 days a year, has to be underpinned by something. And that something is good governance. It's what makes charities thrive, and it's what helps them to make the biggest difference. In a few short weeks, I shall be launching my Governance Mastery program. November 25th is the "International day for Elimination of Violence against Women", and Schellenberg Wittmer is proud to renew its partnership with Solidarité Femmes Genève (AVVEC). AVVEC, a Geneva-based non-profit organization, supports victims of intimate partner violence.   To raise awareness, AVVEC launched WAST (Women Abuse Screening Tool: https://lnkd.in/gggT4SuP), to identify one's own risk of being a victim of intimate partner violence. There is #noexcuse for violence against women. Violence against women is an obstacle to attain gender equality, which is essential to achieve peaceful societies and reach sustainable development.
