Very proud that MacKillop Family Services's individual giving program was featured as a case study at Fi (Fiona) McPhee FFIA, FFINZ & The Benchmarking Project's FIA presentation "Donor retention insights from benchmarking high performers". This was 100% a team effort, each and every one of our team put their blood, sweat, and tears into making our donors feel loved and valued. My three top tips for great donor retention: 1. Never plan an ask without planning how you are going to thank 2. Hyper-personalise every touchpoint. Make your supporters feel like they are an old friend 3. Record EVERYTHING! The important stuff like contact details, communication preferences, and birthdays but also if they responded to an email, if they called to tell you about their day - record it and reference it.

The Empathy Toolkit also includes a Belittling Agility Narrowing Device (BAND). In the workbook, students are told to wrap the device around the back of their hand, around their pinky finger and thumb. This will give their hand limited mobility, mimicking the effects of paralysis, joint issues or injury. They are then tasked with performing every-day tasks such as teeth-brushing, with the BAND in place. They then switch hands, do it again, and record their thoughts.    We need some help to continue distributing the Empathy Toolkits. It was an honor to serve RaiseUp Families as their Executive Director for nearly 4 years. In that time, the organization experienced unprecedented growth: ✅ Expanded Board of Directors by 50% ✅ Doubled the number of families (clients) being served ✅ Client outcomes improved by 100% (average income increase in signature 9-month HandUp program went from 35% - 71%) ✅ Client graduation rate improved from 80% to 91% ✅ Revenue growth from $450,000 to $1,000,015 (donations from private sources) These outcomes are a result of the Board of Directors and staff working together towards a common goal, each person utilizing their unique skills and abilities in their individual role to help the bus arrive at its desired destination. They are the result of hours and hours of innovation, hard work, and determination. As RaiseUp Families celebrates its 30th Anniversary of stabilizing families from vulnerable communities who face unexpected financial crises so their children can focus on their education, giving them the opportunity for a better life, it needs a full-time leader with passion, vision, and experience to lead it forward. I could not be happier that Kate Yadan will pick up this torch and lead RaiseUp into the future! Did you know that in 2024, the United States boasts almost 1.9 million nonprofit organizations and growing? With 24 million employees and 77 million volunteers annually, the sector’s impact is immense. But if we do the math, my research and that of others shows that about 1.7 million nonprofit Board Chairs are lacking any form of onboarding to help them be effective in their role. Imagine how we could change the sector if this gap was proactively addressed and Board Chairs given the tools they need to succeed!
