Drawing from her personal caregiving experience—as well as a background working with special needs children and caring for loved ones with addiction—Wellthy Backup Care Specialist Nicole shares invaluable advice for caregivers when it comes to well-being and self-care: “When you start realizing that all your time is being spent on that person – when you’re not spending time on yourself, not getting out of the house much. Maybe you realize it one day when you’re rushing home from work because you know that somebody at home needs you, or needs their meds, or needs dinner made. You begin to realize that day after day you’re doing the same routine and have no time to rest. If you hit that point, that’s the moment that you should reach out for help.” In this Care Expert Spotlight, we learn about Nicole’s remarkable journey from working in nursing homes and long-term care facilities to providing compassionate care for children with special needs. The so-called Sandwich Generation has a lot on its plate. They are adults who tend to their job responsibilities while raising children and giving those children the best start in life possible. They look after their parents who are getting older and becoming less independent as they used to be. When the parent starts needing a great deal of support, the adult child scrambles to monitor medications, pay the parent's bills, and ensure that the parent is safe and eating. The adult child in the Sandwich Generation can easily burn out under such responsibilities. They need someone to assess the situation, help them find available resources, intervene when an emergency happens, and help the adult child to make difficult decisions. There is help available. Life Care Managers are the hub of the wheel, and they know the many spokes that might make the caregiving journey go more smoothly. In this episode of the Later in Life Planning Show, Ellen Platt of The Option Group / Care Managers and Advocates explains how Life Care Managers can help with proactive planning for an aging adult and be a partner along the journey. https://lnkd.in/ecXc4g25

In aged care, we witness firsthand the importance of connection and community. Whether it's our residents, staff, or volunteers, we all face challenges, both seen and unseen. At Abound Communities, we’re committed to creating a caring environment where everyone feels supported. A small act of kindness, like checking in with a colleague or resident, can make a world of difference to someone who may be struggling. We encourage everyone, especially those working in caregiving roles, to take a moment today to ask “R U OK?”. While R U OK? Day is a great reminder, asking “R U OK?” any day of the year encourages us to check in with eachother anytime, because meaningful conversations and support should never be limited to just one day. Let’s continue to work towards building compassionate and supportive communities in aged care, where no one feels alone. For tips on how to start these vital conversations, visit ruok.org.au.

Corporate Relationship Manager. Northern Ireland Hospice. My goal is to connect with like-minded professionals who are passionate about making a difference.
Your “why” is important because it provides a sense of purpose, direction, and motivation in our personal and professional lives. When we have a clear understanding of why we do what we do, it serves as a guiding light, influencing our decisions, actions, and goals. The concept of peeling an onion to uncover its layers can be applied to understanding our "why" on a deeper level. Just like an onion, our "why" can have multiple layers that need to be explored and discovered. Each layer represents a deeper level of understanding and insight into our true purpose and motivation. ( Just like the onion sometimes your why can make you cry) My “WHY” for raising #awareness, #relationships, #connections and #vitalfunds for the NIH & NICH ——————————————————————— Every day we provide specialist palliative care for babies, children and adults living with life-limiting illnesses across Northern Ireland. We provide a range of palliative care services for our adult patients as well as wrapping our care around their families and carers. We support babies, children and their families through a range of children’s services with our multi-disciplinary team. These services include specialist nursing care at home, supported breaks in our In-Patient Unit, end-of life care and family and bereavement support. We also work in partnership with the NHS to support parents with our antenatal care service, Tiny Horizons. ______________________________________ Visit your own why today it’s a great exercise for focus and clarity🔑🙌 The “why" is an ongoing journey, and your answers may evolve and change over time.
