Tomorrow, 6:30pm. Join us for a lecture from Architecture by Daliana Suryawinata and Florian Heinzelmann. Suryawinata and Heinzelmann, co-founders of SHAU, will present their recent works that demonstrate a 'socio-climatic' design strategy tailored to the local Indonesian context. SHAU's projects are characterized by a fusion of tropical architecture, community interests, passive climatic design strategies, and material experimentation into novel multi-programmatic typologies. https://bit.ly/3SETHUp

https://lnkd.in/derBSHSB Should Traditional African Architecture still be treated as a general blanket for all forms of African Architecture, or it is high time we allow some of these architectures stand on their own. See this Igbo man who has gone and built a country home for example. The discussions should be around the enhancement and different eras of Igbo Architecture, something that retains elements at its core, but is constantly evolving. There should also be for Yoruba, Hausa, Fulani, IsiZulu etc.. the housing form has certainly evolved!

As we navigate the challenges of land scarcity and burgeoning population densities, the concept of vertical place-making and vertical community-making becomes not just an option but a necessity. This requires a blend of safety and innovation. I wrote an opinion piece for Parametric Architecture on this topic with examples of Asian metropolises. I had the chance to spend some time listening and learning from the amazing #JuhaniPallasmaa , when we had him over at an event about architecture in movies at the Cinemateket in #Bergen, #Norway more than a decade ago. Captivating person and extremely pleasant to talk to and hear from. A learning experience in itself. Bellow is an article that poitns towards some of charecterictics of his architecture, and mainly at the human touch in it. In a more #AIgenerated and mainly visual designed environment, it is even more important to point towards the #feelings generated by an architectural space. I wonder how the built environment might look in the future, when we rationalize everything?! REFRAME arkitektur #HumanCenteredDesign
If you're into architecture that whispers stories, speaks in metaphors, and connects deeply with your senses, this one's for you. #ArchitectureSpeaks #JuhaniPallasmaa #Atmosphere #DesignPhilosophy #HumanCentricSpaces #MetaphoricalDesign

I have the pleasure of sharing our brief speech during the PLATFORM Architecture Festival, held in conjunction with the Venice Biennale. Throughout our short speech, we've underscored the values at the forefront of our architectural principles: - Making with emphasizes considering all environmental aspects in architecture, even microorganisms, and their impact. -Geometry and Place Making involves using geometry as a foundation for creating spaces that enhance their surroundings. -Time-Woven-Forms focus on adapting architecture to time, drawing inspiration from history, and integrating with landscapes. -Embracing Simplicity means simplifying design with essential forms and functionality to promote clarity and calmness. -Balancing Reversibility and Specificity involves striving for easily reversible buildings while meeting specific site and program requirements. -Harvesting the Care prioritizes environmental and cultural preservation in architectural design and materials.
