Common areas shouldn't just look good, they should smell good. Grass isn't just "cut", it's edged, fertilized, and landscaped. Trash isn't just picked up, we want residents able to walk barefoot to the dumpsters. Creating safe, comfortable, and clean communities OUTSIDE of actual units is crucial to the resident experience. This is why we have a Communities Division in my company dedicated to ensuring every apt community is up to our world-class standards. We have CTAs (community territory ambassadors) who are assigned to specific regions and are responsible for the look, smell, and feel of their communities. They are measured on standards, experience, and budgets. CTAs own these KPIs and bring them to life at their properties. I think experience is the most important metric because their interactions with residents impact their perspective on who we are as a company, which directly correlates with our reputation. Meeting each new move-in, helping uphold policies, and cleaning up trash are just a few of the tasks they do to ensure each community is a great place to live.

When you’re thinking of moving, consider factors such as proximity to work, schools, and essential services that can impact your daily routine, convenience, and overall well-being. Also, a well-kept neighborhood is not only visually appealing but can also enhance property values and create a positive living environment for everyone. Following my recent reflection post on decluttering, I’ve had an incredibly productive three days. My OCD/ASD-driven attention to detail has allowed me to completely transform the storage unit in the hallway into a functional utility room, complete with dedicated spaces for jackets and shoes for when guests or family visit. Taking on the challenge of installing a new king-size ottoman bed was no small feat, particularly with the complexities of the hydraulics and gas lift. Despite the initial difficulty, my determination paid off, and I successfully utilised the bed’s storage capacity to declutter the bedroom, creating a much more open and serene space. Additionally, I reimagined the living room layout to maximise open space and gave the girls’ room a fresh, organised look. These changes have not only enhanced the physical space but have also brought a renewed sense of energy to the entire family. My message is simple: clutter, both physical and mental, can severely impact productivity. For those of you with OCD/ASD or neurodiverse traits, clutter is more than just an inconvenience, it’s a disruption. I encourage everyone to take control of their environment. Declutter, donate, or sell what you don’t need, and create spaces that allow your mind to thrive.
