The truth about Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant's wedding might surprise you..... No doubt, their wedding was incredibly luxurious, with a spending of around 5,000 crores. India has the second-largest wedding market in the world, right after the US. With 1 in 4 weddings globally happening in India, the industry is worth about $130 billion. Out of this massive market, the Anant Ambani-Radhika Merchant wedding alone cost around $600 million. This event significantly contributed to the "WedinIndia" trend, showcasing how high-profile weddings can impact the local economy. The Ambani family paid homage to Varanasi by choosing its rich cultural heritage as the overall decor theme for the wedding, as well as including local cuisines on the menu. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻 𝟴-𝟭𝟬% 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝗩𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗮𝘀𝗶, 𝗮𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱. This thoughtful gesture not only highlighted the city's charm but also boosted local businesses. From iconic Banarasi food to attar shops, pan shops, bangle sellers, and puppet shows, everything was made available, contributing to the local economy in direct and indirect ways. This is set to establish a new trend in the wedding space and will surge demand for local and traditional themes in luxury weddings. By incorporating local traditions and supporting local businesses, the wedding not only celebrated love but also boosted the local economy in many ways. ______________________________________________________ PS: How do you see high-profile weddings shaping local economies? #anantambani #wedding #lifecoach

Inside India’s $50 billion wedding industry The Indian wedding industry is the 4th largest segment after energy, banking, and insurance. Valued at a staggering $50 billion, the Indian wedding industry even found a mention in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to the nation in a recent episode of Mann Ki Baat. In the latest edition of the Create Wealth newsletter, we peek into the Indian wedding industry since it is not often discussed but has enormous economic significance. Every week, more than 1,50,000 subscribers get access to unique stories about important happenings in the areas of investments, finance, and business. If such stories interest you, subscribe to the Create Wealth newsletter now (LINK IN COMMENTS). The Indian wedding industry is serviced by a multitude of sub-industries. This means that every time it grows, all industries under its umbrella also reap the benefits. Some of the segments that together power the Indian wedding industry are: ➡Jewellery ➡Apparel ➡Hospitality and decor ➡Wedding invitations ➡Online matchmaking ➡Beauty and fashion ➡Event planning and management There is also an increasing interest in destination weddings. A study shows that 60% of HNIs (High Networth Individuals) prefer destination weddings, not just in India but overseas as well. Some of the popular destinations are: ➡UAE ➡Qatar ➡Bahrain ➡Turkey ➡Italy However, this has no significant impact on the Indian wedding industry. Foreign economies are thriving under similar circumstances, wherein the destination for weddings is India. Here’s a quick rundown of the ever-growing industry. #India #weddingindustry #createwealth

The latest edition of Dezerv's newsletter, Create Wealth, talks about India's $50 billion wedding industry and has some incredible data points and insights; a reminder for the hospitality industry to focus on this growing category! The Indian wedding industry, ranking as the fourth largest sector after energy, banking, and insurance is reshaping the M.I.C.E acronym to M.I.C.E.W, 'W' standing for Weddings, highlighting its growing significance. Hotelivate's 2023 Indian Hospitality Trends & Opportunities authored by Achin Khanna, MRICS and Mihir Chalishazar (An incredible must-read for all hoteliers!) also acknowledges that "the resurgence of both corporates M.I.C.E as well as Big Fat Indian Weddings added a quantam of revenue to not just the rooms business but also the food and beverage division of hotels across several major destinations." Exploring more parts of the value chain that hotels can cater to for a larger piece of the pie is something that big players are working on, however smaller players, particularly those without management contracts with leading hotel chains, may be lagging behind. Weddings though, present a nuanced challenge for hotels, particularly those who are positioned as Destination Wedding Hotels: They offer higher ARRs yet can lead to inconsistent occupancy rates due to their seasonal nature. This situation urges hotel strategy and marketing teams to innovate. Thinking out loud : Honeymoons to wedding couples at their Indian or international sister properties? Executed effectively, this strategy can enhance upselling, cross-selling, and cultivate lifetime brand loyalty. Would love to know your thoughts!

#mukeshambani son's prewedding was a brilliant marketing move for the Indian economy. Expected to save a significant portion of 5,00,000 crores Let me break it down for you: While I might be bit late to the party discussing #anantambani 's recent pre-wedding ceremony, I believe there's a fascinating marketing angle to explore here. According to Prime Minister #narendramodi , the Indian wedding industry is a major player in the country's economy, expected to generate a business of impressive 5,00,000 crores (approx. $52B) in 2024. However, a concerning trend has emerged – some wealthy families opt for destination weddings in Europe, Turkey, and elsewhere, diverting funds away from India's economy. So, how does this particular pre-wedding ceremony contribute to the economy? ➡️Boosting Domestic Weddings Anant Ambani's celebration could inspire other wealthy Indians to host weddings domestically, supporting Narendra Modi's "wed in India" initiative and benefiting local businesses, including wedding planners, caterers, decorators, and more. ➡️Investing in Wedding Infrastructure With a potential surge in high-end domestic weddings, we may witness increased investments in luxury venues, catering services, and wedding planning firms across the nation. ➡️Promoting Indian Weddings Globally The presence of international celebrities and entrepreneurs on the guest list puts Indian weddings under a global spotlight. Media coverage showcasing the richness and cultural significance of Indian weddings could attract foreign clientele, boosting the industry and bringing in foreign currency. Moreover, ➡️This event isn't just about the economy – it's a branding opportunity for Reliance. The extensive PR and media coverage elevate their brand value, highlighting their power and influence. This, in turn, could attract potential investors and open doors to new business ventures. What are your thoughts? 🤔

𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁 # 𝟲: 𝗦𝗛𝗔𝗔𝗗𝗜 𝗘𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗢𝗠𝗜𝗖𝗦💥👫💸 The recent wedding celebrations of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant left the World astounded and the Internet divided, with its lavish celebrations and display of grandeur. 𝗦𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗴𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 peg the wedding costs to be ~INR 5,000 crore ($600 mn USD), which is pale in comparison to Reliance Industries market capitalization of INR 20.28 lakh crore (~$240 bn USD), as of August 2024. This week, let’s dive into the 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀. 𝗦𝗨𝗠𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗬📖 1. According to a Jefferies research report, the wedding industry in India is estimated to be around $𝟭𝟯𝟬 𝗯𝗻 𝗨𝗦𝗗, 𝗮 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. 2. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 generated by weddings is seen as a boost to the Indian economy through: a. Job Creation b. Consumption of food, beverages and apparel c. Hotel and travel bookings – thus boosting local tourism if a destination wedding is involved. 3. The Ministry of Tourism has launched an ambitious campaign on the lines of ‘𝗪𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮’ – inviting couples from around the world to conduct their dream wedding in the country's exotic locations. 𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗔 𝗧𝗔𝗟𝗞 📊 • 𝗡𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝗲 India hosts ~80 lakh to 1 crore weddings per year. • 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗮𝗺𝗲 On an average, an Indian spends around INR 12 lakh on a wedding, which is 2x the amount they spend on education. • 𝗟𝘂𝘅𝘂𝗿𝘆 𝘄𝗲𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 The average expenditure for luxury weddings is pegged to be in the range of INR 20 mn to INR 30 mn. Typically, Indian weddings are multi-event celebrations and can last several days. 𝗪𝗛𝗬 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗨𝗟𝗗 𝗜 𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗘?🥱 In 2023, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) estimated 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗡𝗥 𝟰.𝟮𝟱 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟮𝟯 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗲𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻! The wedding market is a highly underrated and overlooked segment in terms of the cashflow generated for local businesses and traders. Maybe in the future, it will find a mention in the Union Budget. Why should manufacturing and IT have all the fun?😉

Mukesh Ambani spent close to ₹5,000 Cr on his son's wedding, amounting to about 0.5% of his net worth of nearly ₹9,00,000 Cr. For most middle-class families, wedding expenses can range from 1-5% of their total wealth. The Indian wedding industry is immense, with 2023 alone witnessing a business of ₹4.74 lakh Cr (~$57.2 billion), marking a 26.4% increase from the previous year. India hosts over 10 million weddings annually, with the average cost of a wedding rising to ₹28 lakhs in 2023. One in four weddings globally takes place in India, with around 10,000 being destination weddings. Formalizing and standardizing the wedding industry could unlock significant revenue potential. Standardization can lead to cost efficiency, quality assurance, transparency, and innovation. Clear guidelines and pricing can build customer trust, while technological integration can drive new business models. As the industry evolves, technology will be key. Online wedding planning platforms, virtual venue tours, and digital invitations are gaining traction. AI and data analytics can offer personalized recommendations and improve logistics. Mukesh Ambani’s lavish spending highlights the cultural importance of weddings in India. Formalizing this industry could enhance its efficiency and profitability, mirroring the innovation seen in other sectors. The Indian startup ecosystem has already demonstrated its capacity for disruption—now it's time for the wedding industry to transform. #IndianWeddings #WeddingIndustry

India will spend Rs 4.25 lakh crore on 35 lakh planned weddings in Nov-Dec 2024, as reported by Prabhudas Lilladher (PL) in its latest report titled BAND, BAAJA, BAARAAT & MARKETS. Incidentally, a survey by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) disclosed that between 15 January and 15 July of the current year, over 42 lakh weddings held generated an estimated expenditure of $66.4 billion (Rs 5.5 lakh crore). PL further stated that the recent cut in gold import duties from 15% to 6% is expected for a notable increase in gold purchases throughout India, especially during the upcoming festive and wedding seasons. "Given gold's cultural and religious importance, along with its status as a valuable investment, this reduction is expected to significantly boost demand," the report stated. The wedding season has a strong impact on the stock market, driven by the increased spending behavior of people. Retail, hospitality, jewelry, and automobile sectors will also experience considerable benefits in this season. On average, India hosts around 1 crore weddings per year, making its wedding industry the second largest in the world. Reportedly, the Indian wedding industry is the fourth-largest industry in the country, with annual spending reaching around $130 billion and generating millions of jobs. The Indian government is planning to bolster its tourism industry globally by promoting India as a top-tier destination for international weddings. As reported by PL, "The initiative will begin by highlighting around 25 key destinations across the country, demonstrating how India can cater to various wedding preferences. Building on the success of the Make in India campaign, this strategy aims to capture approximately $12.1 billion (INR 1 lakh crore) that is currently spent on destination weddings overseas.” #startuppedia #indianwedding #businessopportunity #business
