It's typically me who points out to my clients that they have a big business anniversary this month. Why don't they remember? Do you know yours? They are always surprised when I celebrate them in front of their peers because they forget. I like to make a big deal out of it because IT IS A BIG DEAL! 🎉 You already know the stats about the high rate of small businesses that close. You likely know the stats about how few women own and operate a small business.....so...once again IT'S A BIG DEAL! It's a big deal for your TEAM too. When you celebrate your business anniversaries it's a way to remind them about what a great business they are a part of. Many of them will not know the history. Here's your chance to reminisce with your team, show old photos, old pricing, old offers and services, shine the light on your clients and community, and reinforce how far you've all come together. You don't have to drop a lot of cash on this celebration. Ask a few team members to help plan and execute the moment - more ideas, more fun for everyone. I am celebrating my 6-year business anniversary this April .... WHOOT... and thought I'd share some of my takeaways as I hit this milestone. 🎉🎈🎁🥂 1. The connections you make along the way are the most important because the majority of work is repeat, referral or recommendation. But you've got to deliver or you can easily screw up your relationships. 2. If you think you'll succeed you will. I have thought a number of times maybe it would be easier to get a 9-5 pm but I just always believed it would work and it did. As Lisa Lavis would say, things always work themselves out. 🙏 3. Working for yourself and with clients you like is always better than working for someone else. The freedom you can experience is mindblowing. The opportunities you can create or take, are endless. 4. It's ok to be the expert and co-create simultaneously. I feel comfortable now in my own experience and expertise to let the client in on the magic. ✨ Letting them have more creative input on the outcomes and really including them and empowering them in the video process. As long as I create something I'm proud of, I'm confident enough to co-create. ✨ 5. Inspiring others is the most fulfilling thing you can do and you sometimes do it accidentally by living and breathing your authentic life. I like to be accidentally inspirational all the time. 💡 6. Things you spend A LOT of time questioning, in the beginning, become void... Worries about pricing your worth, concerns of what people think if you add new services or retrain... or imposter syndrome. I look back to how worried I was in the beginning and think... Wow, it couldn't be more different now. My moral of the story here was going to be "don't worry so much" but I actually think it has its value in the process. These are my takeaways. Constant calibration. It's my nine-year wedding anniversary today, and it has made me reflect on what it has taken us to get here: Constant calibration. Being in a relationship, whether it is with your partner in life or business, means juggling three things: 1. Looking inward: How am I? Am I living my values? 2. Looking at each other: Do we really see each other? How can we support each other? 3. Looking at the shared vision: Where are we headed? Are we still on track? It really is quite special when you find someone who aligns with you on all these levels. But it also takes energy, time and work. Like everything that is worthwhile pursuing, you have to nourish it. I don't believe that you can just "let it flow". It requires constant calibration. I am eternally grateful for Stuart Shepherd, my partner in life, and Saskia Roskam 🍪, my partner in business, who are on this journey with me. They never shy away from doing the work to make what we share stronger and get us closer to where we want to be. 🎁An unusual anniversary gift🎁 💍On Friday I celebrated my wedding anniversary. No grand plans, just a cosy night in with a homemade meal and a movie with our teenage daughter. 🛋️Picture the scene: comfy on the sofa deep in "Who's that actor?" conversations (Google to the rescue as always!) when my email pops up.
