Business owners…
When do you find time to work out or get outdoors during your workday?
I used to have very specific times but often felt guilty when something pulled me away and I lost my workout time.
Then I tried morning routines, but life with a brain injury and chronic pain challenges me a bit with really early mornings.
Then I tried mid-day, but I’m usually still jamming on work or calls because my energy is at its peak right about this time.
Then I tried evening times but that’s when I like to unwind a bit with my family and catch up on their day followed by some evening work (another energy peak for me).
Lately, I’ve just been going when the flow felt right and it seems to be working but it’s not optimal and sustainable.
I’m still experimenting but I know it needs to be a part of my scheduled free time which I mapped out today with Tonya Eberhart and Team BrandFace LLC’s help.
There is a better way to figure this out and it starts with mapping out a typical 7-Day week and scheduling my free time first. This is something I hadn’t done before in previous scheduling experiences. It’s kind of like paying yourself first. You have to start with this or you’re already in debt.
From there I learned to add in a few admin slots (content creation, bookkeeping, etc) a few times throughout the week, followed by strategy & long range planning time (both of which should be just a couple hours each week). Then I filled in production times, when I’m executing my business. This includes things like coaching, speaking, sales calls, Biz Dev, podcasts and client calls.
For most of my life I thought I was more intentional with my calendar but what I found out today was a better way to build it from scratch for my current business.
And it all starts with mapping out your free time. And by doing this, I learned how to trim down other areas in order to operate more efficiently while still utilizing my energy peaks and valleys.
Thank you Tonya Eberhart for shedding some light on where my previous military career habits just had to be tweaked a bit.
Let me know in the comments what’s been working for you when designing your ideal week. I think we could all benefit from sharing some good tips and tactics.
