This time last week, the Fourth Day PR & Content and Quatrième Jour : Relations Presse & Publiques teams were heading back from Italy after another successful annual off-site. ✈ Here are a few things we learned during our time together: 1.   Although we work well together online, there’s nothing quite like getting together in person. (OK we knew this already, which is why we have off-sites. But it’s always a slight revelation how much it matters.) 2.   It’s about the people as much as the work. Many stories were shared which helped us to understand one another better, so we thought we’d share some of them with you too: ·     Danny Ward (Manchester) and Christelle Robin Velut (Paris) talked about their weekly bilingual chat, which has not only improved their language skills but has built up a firm friendship between the two of them.. 🤝 ·     We heard about the love that exists in the community of heavy rockers, as Rachel Murray talked about some of her pro bono PR work. We also discovered, as she sorted out wine tastings over the phone and chatted to our hosts, that Rachel’s Italian is totally fluent. 🤘 ·     Our social team explained how the UK and French teams now function as one, thanks to increased collaboration. ·     Maha BENNANI’s expanding network in Morocco made us all think more about the opportunities for the tech sector in Africa. ·     And who knew that Antoine Billon is becoming an expert in joinery? 3.   Finally, while sharing wine, pasta and cheese, we discovered that there are a LOT of courses when dining the Italian way. Several weeks of abstinence may follow. 🍷 🧀 😎

So the topic was “Client Relations & Administrative Management” and the UNESCO Havana team invited me to make the workshop presentation to the finalist for the Transcultura Programme. I had a great discussion about the ups and downs of being a one man team. I asked the question “How many of you are a one man team?” Highlighting the fact that they have to manage several things all at the same time (client engagement, emails, social media, send invoices, manage finances, and follow up with clients). In handling any business, some tasks are better off outsourced to ensure a smooth and more effective flow of operations. If in any event the outsourcing isn’t possible, strong time management principles are needed in order to get things done in the most effective way possible. Most creatives have a difficult time with the administrative side of business however there’s no shame in seeking help with getting the work done so that more focus can be placed on breathing life into the creative process. Most law students I meet with are unwilling to start as an assistant to build the skills they need to do entertainment business and legal affairs at a high level. Don't be that student. Shadowing a senior business affairs executive as an assistant for 1 year will teach the the verbal lexicon and speed that you need to do this job right... I know A LOT of smart attorneys who want to practice entertainment law.
