USA Today published an article about the digital Eco-Hero Launchpad we created! Exciting day for We Save the World and our fans! I'm hoping an article in the national media will help our free tool be better understood. We are making it fun and easy for a young person to use one of our story templates to learn about nature and create a short story to champion an animal or eco-system they want to protect. If it catches on, We Save the World, could rapidly raise MILLIONS OF DOLLARS for environmental non-profits. ... it's just a matter of how many people are curious and try it out. Our first goal is 110,000 young people. (No small goals for us). As futurist Nancy Giordano says, it's time to be "audacious"!! Mother Earth is calling forth the hero in all of us. Will we rise to the occasion? Youths get to choose cool avatars and earn badges on their Eco-Hero Dashboard. They can also earn a unique "First in My City" badge. Please help save ecosystems by sharing this opportunity with everyone you know who wants to empower youth to save nature. It doesn't take lots of time or money. It just takes a legion of young people to craft & share a short story, using one of our templates. USA Today published an article about the digital Eco-Hero Launchpad we created! Join the movement 🌻 Last week, we launched the Love Wānaka Impact Partner Programme - an opportunity for businesses big and small to give back and support local environmental efforts in a way that is simple, convenient, and most importantly, impactful. It’s designed to take the admin out of business giving, all the while amplifying the impact of that giving on your business and the environment at the heart of our home. Right now, we’re building out our Founding 50 – a collective of 50 businesses each donating 1% of their proceeds to support local environmental action. Here are 5 reasons to join the movement: 🌻 It's good business Building a strong purpose into your business – and backing it up with tangible action – is more important now than ever, but it’s not only a win for the environment – it’s a win for your business, too. Giving back and leading with purpose enables you to strengthen your connection with your customers and community, attract and retain top talent, and stand out amongst the crowd. 🌻 We're in it for the collective good We pool our funds for collective impact, so no matter the size of your business or your contribution, your support drives meaningful mahi (work) that will make a real difference to this place, now and into the future. 🌻 We're all about the impact Every dollar you give is destined for big things, with 100% of our funding going direct to impact. Thanks to the generous support of our delivery partners, everything we raise is on-allocated to those who need it most, whether we’re supporting immediate environmental needs through our Annual Impact Grants or growing the Endowment Fund to benefit this place long into the future. 🌻 It's not just for us, it's for our kids, and their kids, too 20% of the funds we raise are invested into an endowment fund with the support of our friends at the Wakatipu Community Foundation. This fund will grow over time, allowing for substantial, long-term funding opportunities for generations to come. 🌻 We're backed by the experts Each year, we allocate funds to local organisations who operate in the climate, conservation, and biodiversity space, all under the guidance of our independent Distribution Committee. This Committee is made up of experts in the field, meaning the hard decisions are left up to those in the know. 🌻 Bonus tip: It's easy! You can give on an annual basis or sign-up for automated monthly contributions. If your situation changes, no stress. You can change or cancel at any time. So, what are you waiting for? Join the movement now and be part of the collective of businesses giving back and making a lasting difference to this place. Check out the Love Wānaka website for further information, and when you're ready, reach out to our team (hi, Ash Bickley!) to start the journey. 🖥 https://lnkd.in/giqcn8Mv ---

Inside Philanthropy: "The new report is the latest product of Good Energy , a nonprofit that the The New York Times dubbed “Hollywood’s Climate Advisor.” It’s one of a variety of philanthropy-backed organizations that bring climate narratives to screens around the world... Good Energy itself grew out of Joyner’s recognition that other social movements were working with Hollywood to put narratives on screen, whether that was Define American on immigration or IllumiNative Org on Native narratives, but not the climate movement. “At that point there was nothing,” she said. “That seemed like a really big gap.” Convincing Hollywood to act, it turned out, was the easier sell. “It’s actually been a lot harder to get climate philanthropy to invest in narrative change,” she said. As ClimateWorks Foundation has found, climate mitigation philanthropy accounts for just 2% of global philanthropy, and all public engagement funding around climate by foundations has accounted for about $255 million annually in recent years. Strategic communications and narrative change work are essentially smaller slices of that amount, and funding for films fits somewhere within them. The oil and gas industry, by contrast, spends about $750 million annually on climate-related communications. But amid burgeoning philanthropic interest in narrative change strategies and a growing willingness to fund intersectional work, perhaps climate narratives will benefit. Good Energy is now supported by an eclectic mix of backers, including some of the world’s biggest climate philanthropies like Walton Family Foundation and Quadrivium Foundation, as well as Pop Culture Collaborative. Another is Bloomberg Philanthropies. “This is a breath of fresh air, a really different approach,” said Katherine Oliver, a principal at Bloomberg who directs the film program and is a member of the Good Energy Advisory Council. Backing culture change is not always thought of as the domain of metrics-first funders like Bloomberg. As Oliver noted, “Mike Bloomberg has always said, ‘You can’t measure it, you can’t manage it.” But Good Energy’s data-oriented approach has been a fit.” The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation is one of the very few endowed philanthropies directly supporting not just docs about climate, but scripted storytelling. The grantmaker has funded or given awards to more than 800 films since 1995, including the climate parable and apocalypse comedy “Don’t Look Up.” Climate may not be an intentional focus for Sloan, but in recent years, it has become a more common ingredient. “I just run into climate because it's there rather than looking for it,” doron weber said. “In that sense, my program probably reflects the concerns that are out there.” These days in philanthropy, no matter what a funder is focused on, that is an increasingly common experience." https://lnkd.in/gV3c7eqq

I feel so grateful to do the work I get to do in the world through OzGREEN. Last year, we delivered 90 events with over 2,500 participants to increase wellbeing, protect rivers, change habits, and change the world! Our programs connect people with nature, build sustainability skills, redirect waste from landfill, plant trees and collect citizen science data. AND we employ and support regional young people to deliver them! Because young people are the future. I'm not on delivery as much anymore after stepping into the Communications Manager role here, but when I do attend our events and experience the magic on the ground, it fuels me in the work that I do. riveryouthfest last April was a great example... It was a family-friendly tree planting festival targeting young people with live music, art and craft activities, games and food. It brought many, many community partners together around a shared goal. It gave young musicians a stage, some of them, for the first time. It attracted a very diverse audience and brought environmentalism to the general public with a really accessible way for people to give back to the planet and feel great. This optimises what we do. Our mission is to create sustainable communities. We work in really creative ways to: Connect communities. Increase wellbeing. Build capacity. And deliver action. We work strategically to create a ripple effect of social change. And we work with our partners to create events that people love. The change that is needed in regional communities to address the social and environmental challenges that we face is deep change. Deep change takes time. We can't wait to embark on next financial year's events but we cannot do it without you. If the work we do speaks to you at all, we ask, at this time of end-of-financial year, to donate and help support us on our mission to create sustainable communities. Donate now for our future. www.ozgreen.org/donate https://lnkd.in/gVkncXwj

Executive Chair at GroupG Asia Pacific | Founder cum Chair at Sống Foundation | Founder & Creative Director of Jillian Switzerland, a Swiss eco-luxury perfume
Dear Sống’s Esteemed Companions, Today is the 27th Tết marking the 11th New Year season in our journey together toward fostering sustainable values for people and nature. Whether You are currently supporting to Sống Foundation or another social or voluntary organization, I strongly believe that as an used-to-be-Sống’s-companion, You have always been aspired to contribute to the community. After a decade of impactful works, Sống Foundation has now transitioned into a new phase called the "The Foundation of Taking-Action-Community". This signifies that each of You, and every current and former member of Sống, are now ambassadors of connection, spreading the values, methodologies, and sustainable value-creating-community-models that Sống has cultivated. Together, we are all “nhà-chống-lũ” (resilient fighters)," fostering and sharing "hạnh-phúc-xanh” (green happiness) within our communities. This will bring about happy communities and "làng-hạnh-phúc”(happy villages) in Vietnam. You may have noticed Sống's announcement to cease fundraising activities starting from January 1, 2024. You might be wondering when Sống will resume fundraising and if the Foundation will continue raise funds for the programs Nhà Chống Lũ (Resilient Housing) and/or Hạnh Phúc Xanh (Green Happiness). I would like to reaffirm that Sống always wish and is committed to support NCL and HPX in building resilient houses and planting forests. Sống believes that these two social enterprises have always been dedicated to carrying out the meaningful activities that Sống has been doing over the past decade. This is what SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT is. Once there are transparent, effective, and sustainable models and methods for community development, it is time for the whole society can participate in, no matter who you are, an individual or a community, corporate or organization.. Since 2024, Sống Foundation will primarily function as a think-tank and connecting hub for promoting sustainable values. There will definitely be new projects that are more “human”, more “river ơi” with new approaches aimed at fostering an active community spirit and encouraging the freedom to innovate and create new values. As soon as mature project concepts are developed, we will promptly notify You and the whole community. As the joyous New Year of 2024 is approaching, on behalf of Sống Foundation, I extend heartfelt wishes for good health, fortune, and peace to You and your loved ones. May all your aspirations, particularly those of giving and sharing, will be fruitful. Let's embrace the New Year of 2024 with faith and positivity, together! Many thanks once again & warm regards, Jang Kều (JK) Founder & Chairperson Sống Foundation #SốngFoundation #sustainability #sustainabledevelopment #NhàChốngLũ #HạnhPhúcXanh #RiverƠi #HappyNewYear #ThankYou

CLIMATE PHILANTHROPY & ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE - REFLECTIONS ON TWO GUEST LECTURES AT YALE UNIVERSITY It was an honor to give two guest lectures today (Oct 31, 2024) at Yale University on climate change philanthropy and environmental justice. During my first talk with Medical Geology students at Yale’s Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, we discussed climate change through an environmental justice lens. The second, more personal lecture for students at Yale’s School of Environment focused on my career journey into climate philanthropy. The students’ thought-provoking questions sparked meaningful reflections I share below; i) WHAT THINGS CAN WE DO [ABOUT CLIMATE, EJ ISSUES] AS STUDENTS? Twenty years ago, fresh out of university, I was driven by the idealism of youth, holding governments and companies accountable for environmental inaction. Recently, while visiting our projects in Africa, a community member challenged a local government leader about the poor state of roads. Suddenly! It dawned on me that I had transitioned from demanding solutions to providing them alongside governments. So I advised students to stay engaged, choose their focus, and prepare—one day soon, they will be on the other side, responsible for the solutions. ii) WHAT IS ONE THING YOU COULD CHANGE ABOUT CLIMATE PHILANTHROPY, WHY? As a sector we need to be more intentional about building upon local resources and agency. I believe no one is so poor that they have nothing to contribute, and no one is so wealthy that they don’t need any help or support. Philanthropy should be a two-way street between the giver and the doers. While private foundations like the one I work for provide financial support, it’s essential that this funding is offered in a way that respects and amplifies what local communities are already doing. One of our partners, Heifer International Uganda, is working with dairy cooperatives to support the productive use of solar energy in the dairy value chain. One member of the cooperative that Heifer supports donated 2 acres of land where the milk collection center and the solar plant stand; another member contributed 95% of the $15,000 needed to construct the infrastructure at the center. Philanthropic funding has been deployed through an impact investment model where the cooperative is paying 9% on the dollar for 10 years (commercial rates are >25%). The money repaid will be used by Heifer to advance similar solutions in other places in Uganda and across Africa. Here climate philanthropy is a partner in a community-led, community-owned and governed process. I am confident that 10 years from now that dairy cooperative will still be running with or without additional philanthropic investments. Thank you Dr. Spencer R. Moller, Ph.D. Prof. Ruth Blake, and Prof. Dorceta E Taylor Taylor for inviting me to speak to your students today.
