23 years. For those of us old enough to remember, that day - 9/11/2001 - will be forever etched into the annals of our minds' eyes. For those of us who aren’t…youth who have been old enough to serve in our military for several years now, even…9/11 can appear like just another paragraph in history books. That’s why storytelling is so VERY important. When we tell our stories, we peel the black and white facts off the page and infuse those experiences with emotion and color. When we tell our stories, we are able to pull up a chair for someone who “doesn’t get it,” who has been separated from that experience or event by time or circumstance and close the gap of true understanding. When you watch this tribute to “The heroes of the forgotten maritime rescue mission” of 9/11, you hear…and experience for yourselves…the stories of these brave souls who were there, navigating the terror-filled Manhattan waters through smoke and debris in order to ferry as many lives as possible out of a crumbling city skyline. https://lnkd.in/eQ8353sN Theirs are by no means the only portraits of heroism from that day, and we honor both the told and untold stories of this tragedy of our nation. We mourn the lost and those who continue to be devastated or afflicted by the effects of the events on and connected with September 11th. But we hope that these captains' experiences - shared as their own stories, in their voices - help eliminate any distance these 23 years have created and, instead, allow you to pull up a chair and sit beside these heroic mariners and all of your fellow citizens as you share in the storytelling of our people.🕯️🇺🇸 🔵For stories of the “call to service” impact 9/11 had, you can read this USO article, “Why 9/11 Inspired These Service Members to Join the Military,” at: https://lnkd.in/ebPUbPZ2 #September11th #PatriotDay #NationalDayofServiceandRemembrance #NeverForget

Reflecting on Remembrance and Reconciliation During the Second World War Anniversary This week, as we observe the Time of Remembrance and Reconciliation, we at Afkar Collective pause to honor the memory of the millions who lost their lives during the Second World War. This period offers a poignant opportunity to reflect on the profound impacts of conflict—not only those of the past but also those ongoing, including in regions such as Palestine and other areas facing turmoil today. As we remember the anguish of the past, it becomes crucial to understand the continuous struggles faced by many communities worldwide and recognize the urgent need for peace-building and reconciliation in these regions. Now, more than ever, we are reminded of the lessons of history and the devastation that arises from conflict, emphasizing our responsibility to advocate for dialogue and understanding. At Afkar Collective, we are committed to supporting efforts that promote peace and help mitigate conflict through education, dialogue, and cooperative initiatives. We stand in solidarity with all peacemakers and those suffering from conflicts around the globe, striving toward a future where such tragedies are a thing of the past. This week, let us not only remember those who suffered from historical conflicts but also focus on contemporary issues that require urgent humanitarian and diplomatic efforts. It is a call to action for all of us to work towards a world where peace prevails, and history’s dark chapters are not repeated
This week's time of remembrance and reconciliation for those who lost their lives during the Second World War is a somber reminder of the devastating impacts of conflict. https://lnkd.in/gkBQUDM

Honoring Patriot Day Today, we observe Patriot Day, a solemn day of remembrance for the lives lost on September 11, 2001. Established by a joint resolution of Congress and signed into law by President George W. Bush in December 2001, Patriot Day honors the nearly 3,000 victims of the tragic attacks and recognizes the bravery of the first responders and ordinary citizens who risked their lives to save others. On this day, we reflect on the resilience and unity that emerged from such profound loss. We remember the courage and selflessness displayed and reaffirm our commitment to the values of freedom and democracy that define our nation. Call to Action: Moment of Silence: At 8:46 AM, the time the first plane struck the North Tower, observe a moment of silence to honor the victims. Volunteer: Engage in community service to honor the spirit of unity and service. Support First Responders: Express gratitude to local first responders and support organizations that assist them. Educate and Reflect: Share stories and lessons learned from 9/11 with younger generations. Let’s come together to honor and remember, and to continue to build a future rooted in unity and resilience. #PatriotDay #NeverForget #September11 #HonorTheFallen #FirstResponders #Unity #Resilience #ServiceAndSacrifice #AmericanHeroes

In a world constantly gripped by conflict and uncertainty, the price of war continues to weigh heavily on humanity. Every battlefield, every cry of pain, and every ruined city stands as a stark reminder of the devastating toll that war inflicts on societies, cultures, and the human spirit. As someone who has walked through the haunting halls of war museums, I have seen firsthand the painful legacies left behind by humanity’s most destructive conflicts. These memorials tell stories not just of battles won and lost but of the lives and futures cut short, and the perpetual insecurity that war bequeaths to generations. Whether driven by political, economic, or ideological motives, war never brings the lasting solutions its advocates promise. Instead, it exacerbates divisions and weakens the foundations of societies that could otherwise thrive in peace. Yet, in the midst of this turmoil, I choose to stand as a symbol of peace. In every action I take, I hold up a torch that calls for harmony over conflict, for dialogue over violence, and for understanding over division. The world today needs more voices that speak of peace—voices that rise above the clamour of war drums to offer hope, healing, and reconciliation.
