A sociological gaze at activism in sport, interesting to understand how the voice of athletes is at the heart of political struggles on doping issues. Many thanks to my colleagues for this great collaboration. To summarize: Advocacy has pushed influential sport organisations to change the sports culture, in particular in the fight against doping and on issues of integrity in sport. However, beneath advocacy for ‘noble causes’ lie struggles for meaning and power. Some advocates committed to protecting athletes’ rights are also appropriating “their voice” and using their symbolic capital, albeit without their consent, in power games against the Olympic Committee or the World Anti-Doping Agency. https://buff.ly/48vb9QC

Brace yourselves, hockey fans, for a truth bomb that's been long overdue. The terrain of our beautiful game is riddled with antiquated stereotypes, an insidious underbelly hidden beneath the glamorous facade. Sexism thrives here, fostered by men wielding outdated perspectives about women and their roles within the sport's ecosystem. This isn't unique to alone alone; it’s a rampant issue plaguing a multitude of male-dominated sports. It's time to change the rules. Not through mere lip service but through concrete actions, by echoing the demand for an unapologetic purge of these views and approaches. Only then can we restore our faith in the leadership of these sports. Consider this: the girls and women rooting from the sidelines, the passionate players striving to score on the field, and all of us, witnessing their struggle for equality. Don't we deserve better than this archaic mindset?

Racism and racial inequalities still exist within sport in the UK and there are long-standing issues. Tackling inequalities is at the heart of everything we do, which is why the home country Sports Councils gathered alongside National Governing Bodies and Active Partnerships to put racism in sport under the microscope. It’s a simple request for leaders to be inclusive, to follow the data and insight to diversify the workforce and give skilled leaders from Black and Brown communities the opportunity to bring their brilliance and vision to a sector, which is crying out for change.
