More great news from #PureSoJo.
The City of South Jordan's award-winning PureSoJo DPR Demonstration Facility hit another milestone last week, receiving Utah’s first-ever permit to taste-test purified recycled water. The first of its kind in the state, this Carollo-designed facility is demonstrating how DPR helps communities pursue a water-secure future, featuring an innovative non-RO treatment train that purifies recycled water to drinking water standards. Since opening in 2022, the facility has garnered interest and recognition across the state and country, including national awards and high-profile visitors such as U.S. Senator Mitt Romney. It is always great to see when local and state level leadership are on board with sustainable innovation opportunities.
Exploring sustainable innovations! ☀️ Our team visited Comstock Minerals solar panel recycling demo facility in Silver Springs. This brand-new demonstration site is one of the few in the the Western U.S. for recycling end-of-life solar panels. Excited to have them in our great state and the growth they'll bring to rural Nevada’s economy!

So, what happens to old materials when you upgrade aging transmission lines? 🤔 As part of our commitment to environmental stewardship, we recycle as many components of decommissioned electrical equipment as possible - diverting thousands of tons of material from landfills each year! Here are just a few examples: ♻️ Concrete pads from construction projects are sent to recyclers, where they are crushed and used as aggregate in new concrete production. ♻️ Utility poles are often donated to the landowner. ♻️ Untreated wood is sent to a recycling facility for reuse as landscaping mulch or fuel in a cogeneration power plant. Come and join us at the NWG (Northumbrian Water Group) Innovation Festival. One of the Sprints we're running, sponsored by WRc Group, is looking at: Recycle to Replenish: Keeping Water in the Main, Not Down the Drain! How can we re-use the water from water mains flushing by returning it to the water network? NWL carries out flushing in our DMAs to help remove excess deposits from our water network and so improve the customer experience. In the last few years our teams have flushed around 4000km of distribution main per annum to maintain water quality. During the summer months and periods of high demand we are do not flush our water mains so we are looking for solutions that can help us re-use the water used for flushing back into the network. The UK is at risk of severe water shortages with the Environment Agency highlighting that “if no action is taken between 2025 and 2050 around 4 billion extra litres of water per day will be needed for public water supply”. We are looking for people form network operations, water quality, vehicle design & leasing, environmental waste management companies and engineers to help us come up with a solution. Come & join us to understand how we can develop a solution. Register now at https://lnkd.in/eYz7ChJa #innovationfestival #innovation #waternetworks #waterquality

We are thrilled to announce a groundbreaking project in the realm of sustainable energy: the collaboration between Hamburger Containerboard Pitten and Bioenergie Pittental GmbH for a pioneering district heating initiative! 🏭💡 Here's what you need to know: 🤎 We've sealed a long-term partnership agreement, joining forces with the town of Pitten to establish a district heating network. 🤎 Through innovative technology, we'll harness waste heat from W. Hamburger GmbH's Pitten site to heat water for the network, reaching temperatures up to 95°C via heat exchangers. 🤎 With a maximum output of 6,000 kW, this sustainable solution will provide year-round heat to meet the community's needs. 🤎 Bioenergie Pittental GmbH will lead the charge, installing a pipeline from our site to Bad Erlach in 2024, connecting it to the broader network by 2025. 🤎 Come 2025, homes, businesses, and public buildings can join the network, ensuring a greener, more sustainable future for all. 🤎 By mid-2025, our waste heat extraction plant will be operational, utilizing around 50,000 MWh of waste heat annually — equivalent to the energy needs of 4,000 homes and reducing CO² emissions by 12,500 tonnes. This project exemplifies our commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability. It's proof that community benefits and environmental progress can go hand in hand. 🌱 Let's keep pushing boundaries and building a brighter, greener future together! #HamburgerContainerboard #Pitten #wewill #welivecircularity #Sustainability #Innovation #GreenEnergy 🌍💚

🎉 The B-WaterSmart project is coming to an end. It is traditionally time for a review but let’s not call it a review. Instead, our final project magazine summarizes the first steps of the journey that we want to continue in our Living Labs and beyond. Let us continue to learn from each other, to question existing solutions, and to rethink our water systems. Such an honour to see the Tilos case, the world's first zero-waste island, and the successful implementation of the #circulareconomy business model being published by INSEAD Publishing. Read the case below. #Polygreen #JustGoZeroTilos #zerowaste #circulareconomy
Atalay Atasu, Luk Van Wassenhove, Xabier Barriola and Elin Williams have just published their new #Operations case “𝑷𝒐𝒍𝒚𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑻𝒊𝒍𝒐𝒔: 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅’𝒔 𝑭𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝒁𝒆𝒓𝒐-𝑾𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆 𝑰𝒔𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒅” 👉https://lnkd.in/gu-rQTAM. The case describes how #Greek oil-spill specialist Polygreen eco, led by charismatic CEO Athanasios Polychronopoulos, successfully transformed the Aegean paradise Tilos into the world’s first zero-waste island. Read the case to delve into the implementation of a #circulareconomy business model, from concept to execution and to consider the questions raised in the case: - how to redesign a waste management system to reduce waste? - how to convince a community to sort its waste to facilitate the recovery of maximum value? - how to make a circular business model economically viable? - how to price future operations on Tilos so that the municipality and the local people will be prepared to pay? 🙌 Special thanks to Athanasios Polychronopoulos, Dennis Karvelis, Eirini Chatzifounta, Daphne Mantziou, Kostas Ploumitsakos, Kyveli Gourgouri, and Valantis Vitalis for their invaluable contributions to the development of this case! #casestudies #INSEADcases #newcase
