🌱"Transforming food systems to mitigate environmental degradation and negative externalities requires integrated investments across entire supply chains," says Claude Gascon, Director of Strategy and Operations at Global Environment Facility. The Food, Land Use and Restoration (FOLUR) Impact Program embodies this integrated approach including the mobilization of diverse actors across multiple scales in 27 countries. From local to national, regional and global levels, the goal is to deliver concrete actions on both the production and demand sides of food supply chains. 📗Read the 2023 FOLUR Annual Report, emphasizing the need of strengthening community to accelerate fruitful knowledge exchange and share insights into initiating private and public sector action on value chains. This is a great visual about how to reduce food waste.
📣 Did you know that over one-third of the food produced in the United States is never eaten? 💡 This uneaten food wastes the resources used to produce, transport, process, and distribute it – and much of it is sent to landfills, where it breaks down and generates methane, a powerful greenhouse gas. Read our recent Science Matters newsletter story about two new EPA reports that tell the story of food waste in the U.S. and provide resources to help you minimize your environmental impact: https://lnkd.in/eA_Q5D6s 📆 You can also learn more about the findings of the report in our next Tools and Resources Webinar on January 17 at 3 pm ET. Last week, Green Plains celebrated the grand opening of our Clean Sugar Technology™️ facility, the world’s first, commercial-scale dry mill clean sugar production facility. Green Plains’ Tim Bauer, Vice President of Sales and Business Development, highlights the importance of advancing the bio-economy with sustainable practices. “Advancement of the bio-economy is critical in achieving the sustainability goals necessary to ensure the long-term health of the planet and people. Executing in the same way as we have always done will not be enough to make meaningful progress in the bio-revolution. We have to be smart in what we do and how we do it. This transformational progression will be one that is based on collaboration with new and existing partners in the food and bio-materials value chain. As a society we owe it to ourselves to maximize the use of renewable resources to create a permanent and positive impact on the environment. The urgency to act has never been greater.”

Commercial composting is growing in both number of operations and tonnage, according to a new report from Environmental Research & Education Foundation. Other interesting findings: 42% of facilities utilize windrows for composting; 80% accept green waste and 41% accept food waste (the two most accepted composting feedstocks); and operations in the Midwest see a higher percentage of revenue from product sales while those in the Pacific and Southeast areas earn more from tipping fees. https://hubs.li/Q02skTBY0
