How can companies address their water dependencies and impacts? 💧 More than 50% of major listed companies are exposed to medium to high water stress across their value chains, which can materialize into direct business impacts - from supply chain disruptions to production barriers. That’s why WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development has created Freshwater Accountability Navigator (FAN), a publicly available guide designed to help businesses understand, and engage with, key tools and frameworks that support: 🌎 The assessing of water-related impacts and dependencies. 🌎 Setting water targets. 🌎 Taking transformative action. 🌎 Disclosing water-related information. Freshwater holds the key to achieving Vision 2050 – a world in which more than 9 billion people can live well, within planetary boundaries. 🔗 Find out more: https://lnkd.in/eY4hmK3s

David Tompkins from WSP just gave a tour de force keynote at the European Wastewater Management Conference & Exhibition. David spoke on "Circular Economy: Stick or Twist?". A challenging and very well informed call to arms, concluding that the water sector is ideally placed to play a key central role in the development of a circular bioeconomy. But the sector must look externally as well as internally, and regulatory and financial frameworks must enable such a transition, rather than hinder it. Too much, too little, too dirty - the water crisis is profoundly impacting societies across the world. We urgently need more companies to step up to the challenge in the thousands, across all geographies and sectors. It is in this spirit that WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development had the vision of providing an entry point for companies starting their water journey (as well as those well into it!) through the Freshwater Accountability Navigator (FAN). It gives an overview of key water-related tools and frameworks as well as their data requirements, and a decision-making tool to indicate which tool and framework best to use depending on a company's maturity level. I strongly recommend anyone with an interest in water to have a look at this essential resource. It has been a privilege to act as the technical partner in this project with my colleagues Lucie Gerber Ariane Lardo Tatiana Fedotova and all those at Quantis who provided additional technical input Åsa Horgby Simon Gillet Francesca Abatianni Anna Kounina Timothée Beckert (+ anyone I may have forgotten!).
Water is the lifeblood of business, but by 2030, it's projected that water demand will exceed supply by 56%. How can your business kickstart its water stewardship journey to safeguard this vital resource?💧 Developed in a technical partnership with Quantis, the WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development recently launched its Freshwater Accountability Navigator (FAN) to help companies take action on their water-based dependencies. 💬 “The Freshwater Accountability Navigator (FAN) is an essential new asset to drive more company action to address our global and local water crises. It empowers businesses to take meaningful and science-informed actions in the places where it matters the most, by helping them navigate existing water-related frameworks and tools,” says Allon Zeitoun, Quantis' CEO and Global Managing Director. 📣 Introducing the Freshwater Accountability Navigator! >> Quantis is proud to have served as preferred technical partner for this initiative, which aims to support more companies to take meaningful action on #water without further delay. 💦 The WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development Freshwater Accountability Navigator (FAN) is the go-to platform — both free and publicly available — for succinct guidance on when and how to use available water-related tools and frameworks to advance corporate freshwater accountability and action. ➡️ With more than 50% of major listed companies exposed to medium to high water stress across their value chains, water is a material issue that must be prioritized. By integrating water into business decision-making and an overarching nature strategy, companies can actively contribute to the global ambition to halt and reverse #natureloss by 2030. Quantis has the privilege of supporting leading companies on #waterstewardship, which has exposed us firsthand to the need for additional industry-wide guidance to help the thousands of companies who have yet to start on their water journey. Get in touch with Lucie Gerber, Sara Traubel or Ariane Lardo to learn more and discover FAN here >> wbcsd.org/FAN

Great summit with some interesting discussion points. Included in the publication is an article I wrote titled "White Infrastructure - the key to the future of the water sector". As an industry and society we need to work together to address the challenges we face. Part of the journey is educating, from a young age, how precious water is and the whole Source to Sea life-cycle. An interesting fact is that the water on our Earth today is the same water that’s been here for nearly 5 billion years. Meaning that every glass of tap water you drink has been consumed by up to 10 people before you, and the odd few dinosaurs.
Our Environment division is a key sponsor at an industry summit arranged by Indepen and The Water Report taking place today. Mark Hanrahan, Mo Akhmed, and Stuart Barefield from our team are contributing their valuable voices to these discussions, based on this year’s theme 'The future of the water sector: ensuring water is used fairly and to best advantage' The event at will bring together up to 100 senior figures, largely CEOs, directors, and board members, from all sides of the water system to discuss the ways in which companies providing essential infrastructure, water, energy, transport and communications can add more value to citizens, society and the environment. #SourcetoSea #SustainableGrowthStrategy #SocialContractSummit

Harrah – Well done Water Corporation. This week Water Corporation ‘dropped’ its new values. Aside from them feeling compelling for me as part of WC – there were parts of the development/launched that really stood out to me. 1. They were developed through conversations with our people across the state. 2. They go intuitively with our strategy – this is, they guide us on who we need to be to approach net zero safely by 2035. AND 3. It was launched through story telling!! Our leaders told stories of how they could see these values were leading to success now and in the future. For those of you who share my academic background you will know how passionate I am on the value of authentic story telling being the foundation for trust in and out of our organisations. We are primed for story, narratives are how we translate from outside of us, to head, to heart! Harrah – Well done Water Corporation.
