Bitcoin continues to move in tandem with Nvidia shares as some analysts question the surge in the Nasdaq-listed chipmaker’s valuations. The 90-day correlation coefficient between the two has risen to 0.86, the highest since May 2023, while the 52-week correlation has now risen to 0.88, the highest since January 2023. The growing demand for Nvidia processors from ChatGPT and other generative AI projects has been primarily responsible for the surge in the chip makers’ valuations. Pivot! In my mind the deathly vortex in this image represents the detrimental impact on "access to funding" caused by heightened interest rates. This new enivironment will ultimately destroy any business that was set up only to survive fair weather (a low-interest environment). The crypto fairytale was destroyed in 2022. So, in Q1 2023, the entire PE-funded growth-tech market reacted to the call "pivot to AI!" But will this new source of hot air being pumped into the sales of tech start ups be enough to help them escape the irresistable pull of the gravitational vortex? For most companies it won't.
