Last week I had the honor of presenting with my colleague Kirsten Mead at the National Family and Relationship Services Association (FRSA) conference, where we discussed our learnings from the evaluation of the HOPE program - CatholicCare Sydney’s holistic wrap-around support program for young parents. Here are some key takeaways from our evaluation journey: 1.    The Importance of Evaluation: Even (or especially!) when a program is well-loved and has lots of positive anecdotal evidence, evaluating its impact is crucial. It ensures that the client's voice is amplified and the service continues to improve. 2.    The Value of External Partnerships: Partnering with an external researcher helps challenge our assumptions and improve the service design. It might be uncomfortable to question the assumptions of our program logic or theory of change, but this discomfort is necessary for genuine continuous improvement. 3.    Objective Evidence is Invaluable: Confirming our hunches with objective evidence is incredibly beneficial. It boosts staff engagement, aids in securing funding, supports informed advocacy, and guides strategic decision-making.
