Private labels sales currently account for roughly $1 in every $4 dollars spent in the grocery and consumables space today and is growing significantly. With Walmart and Target leaning into multi-tiered private label strategies to capitalize on that growth while improving profitability momentum will only increase. Shoppers say they are buying more private label, but more importantly younger consumers - Millennials and Gen Z - have grown up surrounded by high quality, differentiating private label options, as well as retailers like Trader Joes, Costco, and ALDI changing perceptions on what private label means. Roughly 40% of sales in European grocery are private label. If trends continue, I'd anticipate we get near that in the next 10 years. #privatelabel #storebrands #betterforyou #pricing #inflation #grocery #groceryretailing #Walmart #Target #PLMA https://lnkd.in/gzciDVTc

Private label brands are often sourced from national consumer packaged-goods companies that compete for the same shelf/retail space. National brands face a balancing act - be the brand or potentially be the producer behind a private label brand. From grocery stores to department stores to home furnishing brands, private label brands allow a retailer to innovate as well as control how a brand/product is packaged, priced and presented. Consumers continue to look for value and convenience, and private label brands are making inroads with the consumer.

"Free samples have been part of food retailing for decades, and there’s a good reason that brands and retailers are offering them again – it works," says Mark Ryski, Author, CEO & Founder of HeadCount Corporation. "There is no substitute for actually tasting a product before you buy. The pervasive use of social media provides an extra pop that can be very helpful in getting people to try and ultimately become regular buyers. However, as noted, there are logistical challenges and costs with dispensing free samples and that creates barriers to using this strategy. Ultimately, brands and retailers need to decide if this marketing strategy is effective for their business, but from my perspective, this is an ‘oldy but a goody’ worth consideration."
