Jumping right in … Apparently #NickEmmerson,President of the #LawSociety in commenting to the #FinancialTimes, acknowledged that the #justicesystem had been targeted for spending cuts as it had a lower political priority than areas such as healthcare or education. But he insisted there were “votes in justice”. “If you look at the reaction to the Post Office scandal and the TV show, people do still care about justice,” he said, referring to the ITV drama about wrongful convictions, Mr Bates vs the Post Office, that captured the public imagination earlier this year.” OUCH. Where to start/finish . Well it would help if Mr Emmerson would spare just two minutes to answer one of my many letters ( oft referred to here on #socialmedia) about #lawyers, the #legalsystem and #PostOfficeScandal. Maybe #AlanBates has written to him and had a response, I hope so. The on-going silence of the #LawSociety , members of its #Council, of its #Executives and anyone else involved , remains shameful . It's as if #PostOfficeScandal and the 900 wrongful convictions , the deaths , the destruction of #subpostmasters' lives are nothing to do with the legal industry. They are. Interesting to note that vote of no confidence in those who purportedly run the #LawSociety passed its first hurdle last week. If members of the #BarCouncil #LawSociety look at comments across #socialmedia about the UK legal industry ( I'm not talking about #MagicCircle law firms, or tip top KCs , although some of those of too are being dragged into the #PostOfficeScandal ) they may receive a very nasty shock. That's all. Comments welcome. The latest stages of the #PostOfficeEnquiry have come to an end . It was a very long 14 weeks for all. Thanks are due to #SirWynWilliams, #Counsel to the #Enquiry and to everyone else involved. But everyone now , I suggest, needs a break. A break from those who were “economical with the truth", those who conveniently “mislaid their memories” , those who are apparently just plain stupid; and those who also took some sort of malign delight in their stupidity. Those who just smirked and still believe they will never end up with any sort of sanction—whether it is being mocked publicly or otherwise. What an appalling group of people ( here I exclude particularly Ron Warmington and Ian Henderson ). You will have your own league table but “that bloke” from the #NFSP and various lawyers, including those from #WombleBondDickinson, were particularly unpleasant—which is different from stupid [the #LawSociety gets terribly upset with me , when I make these comments. but hey. Would you want your profession / trade , to be represented by partner #AndyParsons or others from that firm. Or indeed by #PostOffice #lawyers led by #BenFoat (now taking time out on full pay, preparing for his return to the #Enquiry)]. And the gold medal for “hiding” must go to yet another lawyer, #JaneMacLeod, sitting pretty in Australia and metaphorically putting up two fingers to those whose lives she helped to ruin. And of course, that is a/the key point. This was not , is not and should never be a technical / theoretical discussion about who knew what, when and why they did “sod all”. The 25 years of #PostOfficeScandal involving #Horizon /Fujitsu, in which lawyers and many of the "Great and the Good" played their parts, ripped many hundreds (and more) lives to bits – and is still doing so. Just read some of the comments of ex #subpostmasters and their families on #socialmedia. Compare their extraordinary #integrity and #honesty with the “other lot”, including (ex) #Ministers, senior #civilservants and other members of the #Establishment; not forgetting many of the 80+ #PostOffice directors appointed since 2000. What a grubby gang . The Enquiry has shown, among much else, a total failure of rules of #corpoartegovernance and the laws around #directorsduties relating to #PostOffice, coupled with a myriad of excuses as why that was the case. No excuse was too lame to be put forward. The latest part of the #Scandal is the shameful delay in #Compensation payments. Some people have been waiting more than 25 years. Many are having to fight lawyers and others for every single pound rightfully and urgently due to them. Over the last few years lawyers acting for #PostOffice have been paid far more than £250million, although their client lost in Court and elsewhere , each time. Other people's money. Go figure. A petition calling for the removal of Paula Vennells' CBE, former Post Office chief, has gathered over 858,000 signatures, exceeding its original target of 850,000. The petition, which is part of a widespread reaction to her role in the Horizon scandal, now sets its sights on 900,000 signatures. The petition is accessible at [this link](https://lnkd.in/erB234mS). So please show your support and sign it. The increase in signatures coincides with the airing of "Mr Bates vs the Post Office" on ITV, a drama that sheds light on the struggles faced by around 700 postmasters affected by the faulty Horizon IT system. The Horizon scandal, known for being a significant miscarriage of justice in the UK, is currently under public inquiry. Scotland Yard has also announced investigations into potential fraud offenses related to the scandal. In the midst of this unfolding situation, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has not made a clear statement on Vennells' CBE, while Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has emphasized the urgency of compensating the victims. Kevin Hollinrake, the Postal services minister, has suggested that Vennells should consider returning her CBE voluntarily. Key facts about the scandal include: · 3,500 submasters blamed for financial losses · 700 convictions · 236 imprisonments · 4 suicides · 93 overturned convictions · 18 deaths among Alan Bates' allies who have not seen justice or full compensation. Despite these repercussions, not ONE Post Manager has faced criminal charges, and Paula Vennells has not yet returned her CBE. This case highlights not only the impact on hundreds of sub postmasters but also the significant expenditure of taxpayer money. Critics argue that this represents another example of wasteful use of public funds, and stress that earlier acknowledgment and compensation by the Post Office could have mitigated these losses. The call for accountability extends to the management during the scandal, with a strong push for Vennells to be stripped of her CBE without further delay. #StripCBE #HorizonScandal #JusticeForPostmasters #SignThePetition #PostOfficeInquiry #VennellsCase #PublicDemandJustice #AccountabilityNow #CompensationCall

A Long History of Miscarriage of Justice The scandal, which has been dubbed one of the worst miscarriages of justice in British history, saw over 900 sub-postmasters wrongly convicted of theft and false accounting between 1999 and 2015. These convictions were largely based on discrepancies in the Post Office's Horizon accounting system, which has since been found to be riddled with errors. #viral The Fallout: Lives Shattered, Businesses Destroyed #PostOfficeScandal #HorizonScandal #MiscarriageOfJustice #WrongfulConvictions #JusticeForSubPostmasters #HoldThePOAccountable #NeverAgain The consequences of these wrongful convictions have been devastating. Many sub-postmasters lost their businesses, homes, and even their freedom. Some even faced imprisonment. The emotional toll has been immense, with families torn apart and livelihoods destroyed. #ITVExposesTheTruth #PostOfficeVictimsSpeakOut #BreakingTheSilence #MoreToCome Vennells' Apology and the Road to Redemption In a statement issued on Tuesday, Vennells expressed her "deep regret and sorrow" for the suffering caused by the Horizon scandal. She also announced her decision to return her CBE, acknowledging that it was "inappropriate" to hold the honor given the circumstances. Renewed Attention and Hope for Justice #VennellsReturnsCBE #AccountabilityAtLast #TooLittleTooLate? #JusticeStartsNow Vennells' decision comes amid renewed public attention to the scandal, thanks in part to a recent ITV drama that highlighted the plight of the affected sub-postmasters. The drama has led to a surge in new potential victims coming forward, with over 100 people contacting lawyers since its airing. #FullCompensationNow #FixThePostOffice #NeverGiveUp #HopeForSurvivors While Vennells' apology is a welcome step, it is not enough. The fight for justice for the Post Office victims continues. Only 93 of the 900 wrongful convictions have been overturned so far, and many sub-postmasters are still struggling to rebuild their lives. The government must act swiftly to provide full compensation and ensure that such a travesty of justice never happens again.

Always prioritize dignity over dollar signs. A few years ago, I represented one of the more prominent, prolific, and controversial NFL players with his off-the-field matters. And there were many matters I was dealing with at any given time. I was one of, if not the only, service providers he actually paid. And I made decent money as his advocate. But the pleasure of seeing my bank account balance rise was not worth the pain I endured from a client who was erratic, refused to cooperate with court orders, walked out of and showed wild disrespect during depositions, and who I credit for any gray hairs on my skull. Eventually, we had to part ways. I could no longer represent someone who, through his actions (including blocking my calls), made it impossible for me to do my job. Dignity over dollar signs. So, it was rather interesting to hear from this now-former athlete’s management this weekend, asking me to represent this person who I had cut ties with years ago. To make matters even more exotic, the request was to go up against the law firm I worked at prior to starting my own 10 years ago. I didn’t hesitate with my reply. It was an unequivocal no. I’m sure the engagement would have netted me tens of thousands of dollars and perhaps into 6-figures depending on how complex and lengthy the litigation and undoubtedly ancillary matters would be. But I care much more about dignity than dollar signs and suggest it’s a great phrase to remember when confronted with these types of situations. There’s no amount of money I wouldn’t pay for calm over calamity. #LinkedInSports

A witch! A witch! The PO had (still has?) an overt culture of evil arrogance at board and reporting levels. A whole tribe of Jordan Peterson's narcissistic psychopaths. So much so they will say they were only doing their jobs, only following orders, so that's OK. They are so mentally ill, they may even believe it. How many more government departments and QUANGOs, empowered with their own police and prosecutors, act in this way by default? I suggest most. Certainly NHS England (the bureaucracy, not the delivery side), is such an arrogant self serving and incompetent organisation, and the DoH above it. Nothing much good about them. Or the Home Office, but in that case the front line Police and officials are compromised as well. The get out of jail powers of state licenced violence that a warrant card bestows make them doubly dangerous, licenced psychopaths. Why some join. The senior positions in state empowered monopolies attract the worst people, because they are not accountable when things go wrong in stae monopolies, unlike the real world, and are encouraged to cover up problems using taxpayers money so Ministers and civil servants are not exposed as being the incompetent parasites on the taxpayer that they really are. And they all are so worthless they value the pointless honours they give each other for doing their jobs badly and not getting caught. Honours good people don't need, because they have already had the reward of doing good for others, that the lot above could never have unless they were made officially great and good. Because there is little or no empathy in their psychopathic characters. It's all about them. We are not served by our state elites. Just taxed and oppressed. IMO of 81 years experience of this never ending elitist S***.
