South Jersey political power broker George Norcross has been indicted on racketeering and other charges following Walden Macht & Haran LLP’s work with New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy’s Tax Incentive Task Force. Nancy Solomon, WNYC Radio reporter and editor, explained what happened on The Brian Lehrer Show: “Matt Platkin is bringing this case that has been sitting in public view for several years. Governor Murphy came into office and committed himself to cleaning up the tax break program, and the backroom deals. He set up a task force. It was run by this really spectacular lawyer in New York, because they had to go out of New Jersey to get a lawyer who could take on this stuff. This guy's name is Jim Walden and he's got a storied history of taking down the mob when he was at the Eastern District of New York, a federal prosecutor, and now he's in private practice. He led up this investigation.” Click below to listen.

Why Republicans Are Talking About Biden’s ‘Dictatorship’ https://lnkd.in/g--ghvHt "Sovereign power of the sort that Trump and his allies gesture toward does not exist in the American system as traditionally understood, and there is no provision in our Constitution by which the executive can set aside the rule of law to deal with threats and emergencies. But the point of this rhetoric of exception is to set the conditions for doing just that — for creating an actual state of exception in American politics. Put another way, if we are on the verge of civilizational collapse, if we are in a post-constitutional moment, if we are already in a dictatorship, then anything is permitted in defense of the old order. And if democracy should stand in the way of recovery and restoration, then democracy should, perhaps, be set aside."

Understanding Impeachment: The Constitution's Role Back in January 2020, the topic of impeachment was all over the news, causing a lot of confusion. But when it comes to getting the facts about impeachment in the American government and history, the United States Constitution is the go-to source. It explains everything clearly and directly. Impeachment: Looking Back Impeachment has a long history in the United States. The Founding Fathers put it into the Constitution as a way to hold powerful people accountable for their actions. They wanted to make sure that nobody, no matter how important, could break the law without consequences. So, they set up a detailed plan for impeachment. What the Constitution Says The Constitution tells us exactly how impeachment works in Articles I and II. It says that the House of Representatives can impeach, and the Senate can hold trials for impeachment. The Constitution also says that the President, Vice President, and certain government officials can be impeached for "high Crimes and Misdemeanors." This phrase might sound complicated, but it's meant to be flexible and adapt to different situations. Step 1: The House of Representatives Impeachment starts in the House of Representatives. Members can accuse someone by introducing and voting on articles of impeachment. This is like the first step in a legal case to see if there's enough evidence to proceed. In the House, a simple majority vote is all that's needed to impeach. Step 2: The Senate After the House impeaches someone, the case moves to the Senate. The Senate acts like a jury in an impeachment trial. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court oversees the trial for the President, but for others, the Senate makes the rules. To remove the impeached person from office, a two-thirds majority vote in the Senate is necessary. The End Result If the Senate convicts the impeached person, they get removed from office. The Senate can also decide to prevent them from holding any future offices. Importantly, impeachment doesn't always lead to criminal charges. Its main purpose is to protect the integrity of the office and the country. The Constitution's Clarity The United States Constitution offers a clear path to understanding impeachment. It ensures that the process remains serious and essential for safeguarding the country against misuse of power. When things seem confusing, turn to the United States Constitution for clarity. It provides a straightforward guide to the impeachment process. For a copywriter in the Philippines, getting a grip on American politics and history through the Constitution can be a valuable journey. It reminds us that transparency and accountability are crucial for a strong democracy. Do you want to learn more about what you can do to act NOW! and save our Constitution. https://lnkd.in/g5PpPw7m

Many of my closest friends and political supporters have asked me to run for President. The idea, of course, is absurd--we all understand that. But the throw-away line is a sincere expression of desperation after last week's debate. It reflects genuine, well-founded worry about the fate of our democracy. At least for me, today's Supreme Court decision giving the President virtually unchecked power and immunity compounds these feelings. Like many of you, I see dark storms gathering. I can't run for president and we citizens have precious little influence over what happens in Washington, but there is a place where we can have a greater effect. It has always been the case that the more local the government, the greater the impact on our daily lives. When you vote for your city council, your state representative, or your state senator, you are exerting a more direct form of control, and when you put someone in one of those seats, especially now, it should be someone sworn to defend your rights, your constitution, and your democracy. It should be someone who will not cave to authoritarian impulses for the sake of party unity and calculated opportunism. Someone who will act as your last line of defense. Please help me defend you and keep this ship of state afloat. The more you can give, the more voters I can reach. If I can reach enough of them, we--together--will be in a better position to keep us safe and free.
I just gave to Stuart Green!

Christopher Mirasola war games the distinct possibilities of upcoming SCOTUS decisions....which are against former President Trump. He begins by mapping out the probable responses by Trump and his followers and then lays out the legal avenues of government response to any violent actions. In short, he is describing a RAND corporation playbook of how a political wildfire might break out and how the government will fight that wildfire. However an at risk community (i.e. American families) can give their full support to the fighters of a wildfire....while at the same time have a Fire Escape Plan in case the wildfire threatens their becoming collateral damage. Such a Fire Escape Plan can be a simple as a "Go Bag option" of document that lets the family quickly relocate. It can also include a longer term plan to live abroad for a period of time or even expatriate from the US permanently. Figuring out the RIGHT Fire Escape Plan requires an examination of the integrated immigration AND tax issues involved in creating a strategy which meets all family members needs and is within the family's budget and time line constraints. Given the potential "Cost of Failure", trying to construct such a complex plan is obviously not a DIY project or best left to the single facet conflicted "free" advice of commission driven salespeople. #scotus #wildfire #fireinsurance #fireprevention #fireescapeplan #antisemitism #racism #gunviolence #massshooting #2024election #uselection #trump #biden #backupplan #exitplanning #taxplanning #citizenshipbasedtaxation #taxtherich #alternativecitizenship #alternativeresidence #travelrestrictions #secondcitizenship #secondpassport #secondresidence #citizenshipbyinvestment #residencebyinvestment #lineagecitizenship #lawofreturn #Aliyah #wealthtax #goldenvisa #renunication #exitstrategy #gunviolence #antisemitism #politicalunrest #massshooting #politicalrisk #politicalviolence https://lnkd.in/drPUhfjH

"Chevron was initially celebrated as a triumph by many prominent Republicans. It was 1984 and President Ronald Reagan was cruising to a landslide reelection, and Republicans appeared likely to control federal agencies for years into the future. Many federal courts, meanwhile, were still dominated by liberal Johnson and Carter appointees who were prone to striking down the Reagan administration’s deregulatory actions. So Chevron meant that those courts would have to butt out and let Reagan and his appointees determine the direction of government. One of its biggest cheerleaders was Justice Antonin Scalia, the conservative icon, who predicted in a 1989 lecture that “in the long run Chevron will endure and be given its full scope” because it “reflects the reality of government, and thus more adequately serves its needs” than the alternative. Beginning in the Obama administration, however, Chevron fell out of favor with the legal right, and the Federalist Society’s annual lawyers’ convention became a showcase of proposals seeking to disempower the administrative state. Many of the same Republicans who praised Chevron when it enabled Reagan-era Republicans to roll back regulations abandoned that view when President Barack Obama’s appointees were in charge of the agencies.
