Proud Moments at IEEE RO-MAN 2024: Award-Winning Innovation with Former PhD Students. I had the incredible honor of attending the 33rd IEEE International Conference on Robot and Human Interactive Communication, IEEE RO-MAN 2024, conference in Pasadena, CA last week. This conference was particularly special for me, as I had the opportunity to reunite with my former PhD students, Dr. Wenda Xu and Dr. Yunfei Guo, who have gone on to launch successful careers in robotics. Wenda is currently an Applied Scientist at Amazon Robotics in Seattle, and Yunfei is a Senior Robotics Systems Engineer at Futronics Corp. in Pasadena. Together, we proudly received the UBTECH Best Industry Application Award for our paper titled "Voice-Controlled Human-Machine Interface for an Assistive Exoskeleton Glove Aiding Patients with Brachial Plexus Injuries." This award recognizes innovation and excellence in applying robotics and AI to real-world challenges, and I could not be prouder of our team’s work. It was inspiring to see so many innovative projects and ideas at the conference and to be part of a community pushing the boundaries of human-robot interaction. This work was done in collaboration with Dr. Cesar J. Bravo from the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.
