🔥 Turning the power of iron into profit - an interview with Philip De Goey, a man on a mission 🔥 EIRES Professor Philip De Goey, has been pushing the development of iron powder as a medium for large-scale, long-term storage of sustainable energy since 2015. With a relentless pursuit of innovation, De Goey and his team have not only made strides in academia but also in bridging the gap between research and real-world application. Through initiatives like Metalot, they've brought together academia, government, and industry to accelerate the pace of sustainable, circular developments in metal-based renewable energy. What's remarkable is how this research has evolved from a mere concept to tangible solutions with commercial potential. Student teams like team SOLID and startups such as RIFT and Iron Plus are already making waves, demonstrating the feasibility and scalability of iron power technology. Now, with everything in place - scientific expertise, practical know-how, and strategic partnerships - the focus shifts to scaling up these technologies for widespread adoption. The goal? To revolutionize energy storage and distribution, particularly for heat-intensive industries, paving the way for a cleaner, more sustainable future. 🌍 Read more in this article: https://lnkd.in/gw433PnS #ironpower #innovation #research #renewableenergy Mechanical Engineering at TU/e

Nicola Cantisani from DTU Compute at DTU - Technical University of Denmark presents a plantwide model for dynamical simulation of the EcoClay process at the IFAC ADCHEM 2024 conference. The EcoClay process for production of activated clay to substitute cement clinker is developed by FLSmidth Cement. The EcoClay process is an important step towards zero CO2 emission from cement production. The plantwide dynamic simulation enables digitalization as well as control and optimization for optimal and flexible operation of the EcoClay process with renewable electrical energy and high temperature thermal storage. The project is part of a large effort by DTU - Technical University of Denmark, FLSmidth Cement, and other partners to enable CO2 emission free cement production. DTU Compute has developed digitalization tools for simulation, control, and optimization to enable CO2 emission free cement production. The projects are funded by EUDP - Det Energiteknologiske Udviklings- og Demonstrationsprogram and Innovation Fund Denmark through INNO-CCUS in the projects EcoClay and NewCement. #scientificcomputing #chemicalengineering #cement #simulation #control #nmpc #mpc #modelpredictivecontrol #mathematicalmodeling #dynamicsimulation #dtu #technicaluniversityofdenmark #dtucompute #flsmidthcement #ADCHEM2024
