QCOSS is leading the ‘Make Queensland Fair’ campaign to shine a light on the cost of living crisis affecting everyday Queenslanders and the resulting increase in demand for front-line-services. Volunteering Queensland highlights that a direct consequence of the cost-of-living crisis is the worrying decline in volunteers who report that volunteering has become unaffordable. The increasing cost of living is undoubtedly a significant contributing factor in reducing the number of people who have the time or capacity to volunteer, as they instead require more employment to make up for an income deficit or simply don’t have the disposable income to support their volunteering. Given that close to half of all charities rely solely on volunteers to operate, it is essential the Queensland Government does all it can to enable volunteers to help those experiencing vulnerability and need in our community. Volunteering. A Significant Oversight in Political Manifestos Volunteers play a crucial role in driving community initiatives, supporting public services, and fostering social cohesion. Despite their immense contribution, their efforts often go unrecognised in political discourse Saskia Konynenburg, Director of Strategic Communications and Insight, covers 'What the general election manifestos mean for the voluntary sector' on NVCO The National Council for Voluntary Organisations's website (link in comments) and reports " A glaring omission from each and every manifesto... volunteering" She adds, "We are disappointed that no party took this opportunity to set out their vision for volunteering or recognise the importance of volunteers across the country." ❓Why do you think political parties overlook the role of volunteers in their manifestos? ❓How can we better advocate for the recognition of volunteer work at a policy level? ❓Do you have any personal experiences or examples where volunteering has made a substantial impact? 💚Help shape a future where volunteering is acknowledged and valued 👇Join the discussion 👇Join Charterpath #Charterpath #volunteering #nonprofits #charities #finance #accounting #generalelection #manifesto Alice (Stein) Clementi Alex Marsh Khurrum Beg Eleanor Norton Jordan Hart Sara Wrinch (nee Donaldson)

Helping overwhelmed service providers reclaim their time and grow their business || Digital Business Manager || Brand Strategist || Dubsado Specialist
Storytelling time. :) While working for Generali Employee Benefits - GEB in Prague (04/2014-01/2020), I brought a hamburger-shaped piggy bank to the office. I always tried, in every workplace, to make it more humane - to make it feel a bit like it's mine. I wasn't used to carrying coins - in my home country, their value is low, so people tend to use banknotes when paying cash. So I always put my Czech coins in that piggybank and encouraged my colleagues to do so as well. Well, like I always say, all good things come to an end... so better things can follow. I loved that job in Generali - I loved the crazy-diverse people I worked with, all the things I learned in my ten years and three countries with the company, and I loved all the traveling I got to do in the many countries I supported in our region and around the world. When the time came for me to leave - I quit Corporate to travel the world and run my own EntrepreneurShip activity - I had this heavy piggybank full of coins. I knew I wanted to do something impactful with that cash. I always felt, deep within my gut, mind, and heart, that humanity cannot progress if, at an individual level, we only look after ourselves. The world is bleeding when we don't care about others, too. But I didn't know what to do. So I did what I do when I lose my compass: I looked within. Poverty is one of my greatest fears. Growing up in a post-communist country in the 90s, I have seen poverty high and low. I have seen inequality, corruption, and addiction at school, in traffic, and so on. My Mum worked for many years in an orphanage, and I often volunteered with an NGO there since I was 14 years old, so I saw firsthand what poverty does to a family and what it means not to have the means to support oneself. I felt the impact of a society that allows its people to fall through the cracks. But back to 2019. After searching within, I did the next best thing: I started searching online for a cause to support. I came across what was then a Czechs and expats Facebook group supporting a group of homeless people in Prague by giving hot meals outside the main train station every Saturday afternoon and occasionally donating clothes. If you ever thought that it takes many to have an impact, yes, you are right. But it takes just a handful of people to have the initiative and a few more to believe in them - good deeds, no matter how small, stack up. :) In 2019, I took my 300 EUR worth of coins to the bank and turned them into an idea that evolved into a campaign to buy 83 sleeping bags for our homeless friends. That Facebook group became an NGO called FriendShip Prague - it has a board, a regular volunteer group, processes in place, strategic collaborations, and so on. ➡️➡️➡️ Find out more & and support us here: https://lnkd.in/exAqm9x4 (you can donate your time, skills, and/or finances).

Volunteers’ Week 2024 is a time to celebrate and inspire. Over the years Englobe UK are proud of our previous efforts within the charitable sector adding to our overall year on year Social Value initiatives. We believe volunteering is a net positive for society and companies - a win-win on both sides of the table. The benefits of volunteering go far beyond the feel-good factor that it gives you. It’s an activity that can transform who you are at the core of your being, benefiting the communities in which we live, work and play. We look forward to supporting and encouraging our employees to use their extra day’s annual leave per year to volunteer their time. #VolunteersWeek #SocialValue #EnglobeUK #Englobe #ExcellentPeople #GreatPlaceTowork #ProudOfOurWork #Remediaion #RemediationContractor #SoilTreatmentFacilities #BrownfieldContracting #EnablingWorks #IntegratedEnvironmentalServices #InfrastructureProjects #CivilEngineering #HealthandSafety

In case you missed it! 📢 The Value of Volunteer Time has been released for 2023, and the numbers are in! Independent Sector, in collaboration with the Do Good Institute, reveals that the value of a volunteer hour is now $33.49 — a 5.3% increase from last year. This figure highlights volunteers' incredible contributions to our communities and nation daily. Why does this matter? 💼 Charitable organizations use this value to acknowledge the invaluable support they receive from volunteers, while corporations utilize it to measure the impact of staff volunteer efforts nationwide. 📈 Calculated based on data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, this year's increase of 5.3% surpasses the annual inflation rate, demonstrating the profound appreciation for the tireless work of volunteers. 🤝 While no dollar estimate can fully capture the value of volunteers, this number serves as a vital tool for quantifying their impact. #SectorHealth #Volunteering #ValueofVolunteerTime #CommunityImpact #NonprofitEnthusiast

There's a fascinating CSR trend emerging: The rise of Volunteer Acts of Kindness (VAOK) 🤲 These acts, like helping a neighbor with their groceries or tutoring a student, represent a shift towards more accessible, everyday forms of volunteering that aren’t tied to a specific nonprofit. According to our 2024 State of Corporate Volunteering report, VAOKs are breaking down traditional barriers to volunteering and now make up 35% of all volunteer hours! 🤔 Want more corporate volunteering insights? "Keeping the Bastards Honest". One can tell who people are at their core by the priorities they set! Controlled Greed/ Capitalism is good! Rampant Greed must be controlled! All that is reasonable to you and your family!
8moThe Albanese Government has embraced the rightwing tropes and policies of the Morrison Government in that keeping people below the Poverty Line as a central plank of their Economic Policies. It must stop! Insisting keeping people with 20, 30, 40 yrs work experience and work ethic below the Poverty Line, insisting they required that motivation, while they look for work in an age discriminating workforce while threatening their life line to cease if they don't look for work is unnecessary cruel! A Morrison Government rightwing trope! Over 1 000 000 longterm visa holders arrived the last twelve months into the tightest essential shelter/home markets of all time! Pushing the Under Employed and others into Homelessness! It must stop there are other ways to achieve growth figures to crow about! This lack of due care and attention from the Canberra Bubble must stop!
