Our dynamic junior engineering and HR team members stepped out from their daily grind to represent Keywest in what turned out to be an amazing day filled with team building and networking. The fair was not just a chance for us to showcase the Keywest culture but also an opportunity to connect with the bright minds shaping the future of engineering. It was pure joy to share stories, insights, and laugh while highlighting what makes our work exciting, meaningful, and innovative. A huge shoutout to the soon-to-be U of C graduates who stopped by our booth—you inspired us with your enthusiasm and we are thrilled about the talent coming into our industry! In the next few weeks, I’ll be at several events representing Silfex, Inc. - A Division of Lam Research Corporation as we promote co-op and engineering opportunities. Students often ask me… how I can stand out at a career fair?   Here are a couple of quick things you can do: ● Before the career fair, do your homework on which employers will be there. Know something about the organization you can ask about, like what they do or what industries they’re in. If you can show you’ve done your research, it can help you quickly build a relationship with the team.  ● Follow companies you are interested in on all channels. Recruiters will notice, and it will help you keep a pulse on what’s currently happening with the business. ● Don’t forget thank you letters and/or emails can be a nice touch. We’re going to meet a lot of students at career fairs. The ones who follow-up after will stand out. Help me bust this myth, and provide directionally right guidance to job seeking international students. Most commonly heard versions of this MYTH: “Career fairs are useless” “All they ask you to do is apply online” “Career fairs are just companies advertising themselves” People need a reality check, specially in this economy where finding employment is an art of dedication, resilience and focus. To build some credit, i’d like to share opportunities i’ve gotten SOLELY through a career fair: ⚙️Fall 2017 career fair: Co-op at Danfoss ⚙️Spring 2019 career fair: Full time Mechanical engineer position at Midwest Engineering Associates ⚙️Spring 2023 career fair: Internship at Micron Technology which has led to full time employment at Micron Career fairs are not magical events where jobs are offered to students on a platter. From my perspective career fairs offer: 1) A golden opportunity to make a personal connection with employers 2) A chance to get answers to your questions with almost no latency 3) Priceless practice of advertising your skills and the value you bring CAREER FAIRS ARE HIGHLY VALUABLE EVENTS!! In my next post I will share how I prepare for career fairs and how you can effectively make the most out of the quickest 6 hours of your semester. This year marks 9 years that I have been attending career fairs as an employer. I can confidently say, the career fair Tim Rabenberg and I attended on Tuesday at South Dakota Mines hit a little differently than all other years! This year at #SDSMT we had two Member's also in attendance: Minnkota Power Cooperative and Powder River Energy Corp. Using the theme our CEO talked about this week, it was so energizing for me to meet some of our Member's in person at the career fair and hear their experiences with our software! In addition to this, I realized I can still make an impact for our Member's even though I am not in a Member facing role. NISC sometimes has electrical engineering related positions open however, at this time, we do not. Tim and I were able to talk with our Member's during the career fair and ask what positions they were looking to fill. Anytime an electrical engineering major stopped by our booth, we told them about opportunities that may become available at NISC and then swiftly sent them to go talk to Minnkota Power and Powder River Energy after talking with us. To experience the 6th Cooperative Principle "cooperation among cooperatives" happening first hand was an impactful experience for me! I cannot wait for more career fairs this Spring and in the future to seek out our Members, ask them what positions they are looking to fill, and continue to partner with them in the one realm I know best: recruiting. #loveyourjob #cooperatives #NISClife #recruiting

Hello fellow Coogs and engineering students! I attended the University of Houston Engineering Career Fair on Wednesday, February 7 and learned valuable information about securing potential jobs in the industry. Let me share some advice from the recruiters I spoke with: 1. Understand the specifics of the position you're applying for and vocalize which industries you're most passionate about. Large engineering companies offer a variety of services, so do your research beforehand to check if their open roles align with your interests. Companies want to put you in an environment where you'll succeed; let them know which office location you'd prefer and ask about potential mentorship programs to help you with the transition. 2. Be prepared to answer questions about your resume. If you put any previous work experience, projects, or skills on your resume be ready to explain their relevance. Keep your resume up to date and treat it as a living document that represents where you currently are in your career. 3. Treat the career fair as a networking event and focus on asking questions. Come prepared with a list of introductory questions about company culture, the recruiter's experiences/projects with the company, and professional development opportunities. If this is your first career fair, focus on understanding what recruiters are looking for when considering candidates. Make observations on what constitutes successful body language and introductions. 4. Follow up with employers after the career fair. You will inevitably end up with a pile of business cards, flyers, and company swag, so send a thank you email. Tell recruiters you appreciated talking with them and outline the steps you're taking to become a member of their company. Applying online is virtually a must at every single company, so check company websites for potential deadlines and important company language/requirements. Hope these tips help. Here is a fact... Summer-Time Career Fairs are tough to attend in our industry. Everyone is chasing their tails. They are crazy busy. Most companies flat out prioritize revenue in the Summer... ESPECIALLY in these times. And who can blame them? Here is another fact... Technical College enrollment is through the ROOF. There are more folks going to school these days for HVAC/R than in the past decade plus. We were so excited to be invited to a local Technical College last week to educate their students on our Industry. This particular college has nearly 100 enrolled HVAC/R Students! Clayton and Daniel represented Coastline, our Values, and our Industry as a whole. And the feedback was incredible! We were the only company from our industry in attendance, so this event felt more important than most. The booth was buzzing with energy and excitement for our Industry! Most companies have put a pause on hiring these aspiring technicians. At Coastline, we are purposefully built to give aspiring Technicians an opportunity to change their lives. We prioritize these events (even in the Summer!) and will continue to educate, motivate and excite aspiring technicians on the endless opportunities our Industry can offer.
