We’re thankful and grateful today as Birmingham Green was ranked number 1 in Northern Virginia and number two statewide by Newsweek’s America’s Best Nursing Homes list. We want to express our appreciation to our devoted staff and residents for making Birmingham Green a comfortable, enjoyable place for everyone. Newsweek highlights America's Best Nursing Homes of 2025 by awarding the nation's top 750 nursing homes out of 12,273 analyzed. Compiled in partnership with global data research firm Statista, Newsweek’s annual ranking evaluates skilled providers based on four data sources including quality metrics, a national online survey, accreditation data, and Google reviews. This year, the weighting of the performance data pillar was increased within the scoring model to reflect the emphasis on the medical key performance indicators. But finding the right facility is not just about numbers; it's about ensuring your loved one receives the care and attention they deserve. Quality and Training Officer | BSN-RN | Master's in Hospital Risk Management | Passionate Palliative Care Advocate |
Nurses have an essential role in delivering high quality patient care. One important topic in the context of patient safety is nursing staffing and nurse to patient ratio. With the global shortage of nurses, RN staffing may be a challenge for many healthcare institutions but, in Lebanon, this issue is becoming progressively more challenging as we face a scarcity of skilled nurses. A recent study published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ) Quality & Safety underscores the critical link between RN staffing and patient care outcomes. The study found that an extra 12-hour shift by an RN was associated with a reduction in the odds of a patient death of 9.6% #nurse #registerednurses #BritishMedicalJournal #patientsafety #qualitycare #staffing #nursingshortage #Lebanon. Growth Strategist | Regional Business Development Leader | Board-Level Executive & Clinical Liaison with a passion for Aging Well | Empowering People & Delivering Results | SNF, LTC, Senior Living, Hospital
Throughout my career, I frequently receive urgent requests for assistance from various sources - ranging from hospital employees, families in search of care for their loved ones, community allies, physicians and peers within our industry. These conversations typically focus on developing care and placement strategies for those in crisis without a plan for long-term or supportive services. Despite these challenges, Skilled Nursing Facilities, (SNFs) are often called upon to overcome these complexities, and they strive diligently to offer supportive care to those in need. Moreover, with hospitals discharging patients sooner, many of whom have increasingly complex clinical needs, our sector's role in providing additional support is more crucial than ever. Achieving the best outcomes requires a collective effort in the most challenging of cases. When we prioritize strengthening our community support and enhancing our alliances across the continuum of care, we acknowledge the vital resources we all provide in support to those with the direst needs. How do you see our collective efforts making a difference in people's lives? Share your thoughts, resources or stories of impact. 🤝

Great article with valuable perspective.
I published this article thanks to the wonderful folks at Canadian Nurses Association and the response from peers and strangers was positive. The suggestions I posed require a lot of work, but I believe they are acheivable if health professionals, the public and decision-makers work together and not just alongside each other. https://lnkd.in/gzU6EGgX

#SNF Diaries #SNFLIFE #SNF ADMINISTRATORS #SNFDON Just received a Subpoena from a nursing home case that occurred 8-9 years ago when I was working as an Administrator. I vaguely remember this case even less the details of the case. What I do feel good about is that I had a strong DON and Clinical team with good processes at that time. Is it fool-proof No? Is it a silver bullet No? This is a reminder to ask yourself as an Administrator or Leader. How involved are you in high risk patients? Do you know how many wounds you have? Do you attend Clinical Meetings? How is your relationship with your family members? Are you rounding? Do you have a strong clinical admission process and post follow up? How strong is your relationship with your DON and your involvement with Clinical? Your Clinical team should not work in isolation the Administrator's involvement is key. Yes, the clinical meetings are long but you don't need to be part of chart reviews but you do need to know your wounds, high risk patients, critical I'll patients, Hospital discharges and ensure your DON reports that admissions chart audits and Hospital discharge charts were completed 100%. I like to share sucess and positive things but also lessons, challenges and learning opportunities. I don't know what the outcome will be but I do remmeber well who my team and DON were at the time and the consistent process we had in place.Lawsuits come with the territory and it impacts so many people. I am hoping for the best outcome for all parties.
