Educational and Developmental Psychologist @ Jasmine Loo Psychology | Author of Nurturing Neurodivergence | Board Approved Supervisor
I'm so excited to be sharing my very first online (live) seminar on 18 Feb 2025 with all of my connections! This PD will be focused on Autism Assessments for Youth with High Masking Presentations, and is designed for health and allied health clinicians who conduct, or are interested in conducting autism diagnostic assessments with clients who present with 'masking' tendencies or behaviours. Since I've been offering supervision for some time now, I'm noticing more and more that there tends to be particular common themes that come up in supervision. And working with neurodivergent clients who have picked up and have been adopting strategies that 'mask' their neurodivergence to fit in seems to top the list. That's where I got the idea of offering PDs on topics that may interest many colleagues who are working in this space. Registration for this event is now open, and all the details can be found on the poster and on the webpage (link here https://lnkd.in/gum5W2xT). What's even more awesome is that if you were to buddy up with someone and get a ticket for 2, it means that you'll both be getting a 10% discount! Link for the 2-clinician ticket here https://lnkd.in/gPuAdhs4

Can psychedelics provide relief for autism? There is a growing number of neurodivergent individuals turning to plant medicine and compounds for help with their symptoms. ❤️ But what does the current research say? And what research is still needed? And how can the psychedelic community work harder to support neurodivergent people seeking to partake in ceremonial, clinical, or solo consumption? 📖 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gNiiCftF

Following the launch of Perth Children’s Hospital’s Emergency Department Neurodiversity Care Program last year, designed to help children with autism and other neurodivergent conditions have a more positive experience while in ED, our team has continued working on additional resources to take the stress out of medical procedures. Social stories are simple step by step explanations that can be used to prepare your child before an ED visit or procedure to help them become familiar with the steps involved, reducing anxiety. While the social stories have been developed for neurodivergent children, they can be a useful tool for preparing all children for a procedure or visit to the emergency department. For unexpected visits, they are available in A4 format. Simply speak to your treating team about ‘social stories’. If you are coming to hospital for a planned procedure, they are also available online in a print-at-home flipbook format, which you can prepare and bring with you. Social stories are currently available for common procedures including taking medication, giving a urine sample and inserting a cannula, with new resources coming soon including reasons we may need to wait in ED, who we might meet in ED, getting an X-ray, and having an ear and throat examination. Christina Nicolaidis, MD, MPH co-authored the recent publication "Measurement Matters: A commentary on the state of the science on patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) in autism research". High quality science relies upon psychometrically valid and reliable measurement, yet very few Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) have been developed or thoroughly validated for use with autistic individuals. The present commentary summarizes the current state of autism PROM science, based on discussion at the Special Interest Group (SIG) at the 2022 International Society for Autism Research (INSAR) Annual Meeting and collective expertise of the authors. We are excited to share our latest publication in Child: Care, Health and Development! This scoping review explores the potential of exergames to enhance physical activity and physical literacy in adolescents with Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) and Cerebral Palsy (CP). Despite promising results in other populations, the study highlights that the use of exergames to improve physical activity in DCD is rarely studied, revealing a gap in the literature in this area of research and calling for further studies in this area. Professor of Autism Studies, Birmingham City University, Clinical Psychologist at Studio3 Training Systems
Distorted Thinking and Prediction Errors I have had many conversations with my colleague Peter Vermeulen about #stress, #trauma, and what could be described as #autistic thinking. The ideas that Peter promotes apply well beyond the field of autism. How many times have we misunderstood a situation, or experienced the stress of our own catastrophic thoughts? This event is designed as an all-day seminar where practitioners, people with lived experience, and families can come together to really think about the chaos experienced by the people we support. If we can help people to navigate some of that chaos, that will ultimately lead to improving people's #wellbeing and #mentalhealth.
Live Conference Event | Birmingham, 11th December 2024 Are you a professional or parent in the UK who wants to learn more about autism and the predictive brain? Join world-renowned expert Dr Peter Vermeulen for an enlightening full-day seminar! Early bird tickets are on sale for a limited time only, secure your place now: https://lnkd.in/ecQtt7Tx
