🌟 From Bollywood Dreams to INR 2300 CR Fashion Empire HOUSE OF RARE: The Inspiring Journey of Manish Poddar 🚀
For a long time, I've been curious to know the story behind the multifold growth achieved by this company. Sharing it with you all.
Since childhood, Manish's passion for Bollywood glamour ignited his creative spark. He used to steal fabrics from his father's office, eagerly directing the tailor, “Cut it like this, like that.” In 5th grade, he began toting his school books in his father's VIP briefcase, aspiring to emulate a businessman, undeterred by the mockery of his peers.
At the age of 16-17, he joined his father's textile trade business - The Radhamani Group, swiftly mastering the intricacies of the industry. By 19, he was spearheading successful exports to Bangladesh.
At the age of 25, Manish got a chance to partner exclusively with #ZARA for a remarkable 12-year journey. To showcase his first collection at ZARA, he bought fabrics from a ladies' store, did some block printing on it, and made some shirts. 👔 He was the sole manufacturer for ZARA menswear. Later, he also collaborated with #Jack&Jones.
In 2005, Manish ventured to Bengaluru with a bold vision. He took a loan of 37 crores to establish a revolutionary factory drawing inspiration from the sleek design of Hamburg airport in Germany. Manish personally crafted the layout of the factory. He continued to work as a private label manufacturer for many European brands.
One day, while standing at Forum mall, Manish identified a gap in the men's apparel market in India. While formal and casual wear abounded, there was a distinct absence of smart wear fashion options.
In 2015, he decided to create his own brand "Rare Rabbit," inspired by the rabbit's sexuality and ability to multiply the faster, symbolizing growth. It echoed his journey, where he experienced tremendous growth in his business.
How Rare Rabbit differentiated itself in the highly cluttered men's clothing market?
- A brand devoid of logos on the chest, inspired by Spanish fashion principles emphasizing individuality, to prevent judgment based on brand affiliation.
- Attention to detail is paramount, encompassing everything from fabric quality and design to the scent of the store.
- Managed to create a shift between availability and luxury - affordable luxury.
- Emphasized the importance of storytelling - "story sells first, products sell later."
- Revolutionized men’s wardrobe beyond traditional colors to embrace vibrancy and unconventional designs.
Now the company is known as HOUSE OF RARE with three verticals – Rare Rabbit, Rareism, Rare Ones.
Share it if you find Manish's entrepreneurial journey inspiring!
