I love this from ASOS.com. Companies simply do not sell themselves well enough. Please do not assume a candidate's life-long dream is to work with your business. Do they know what your culture is like? Do they understand how their position fits into your wider team? Have they seen what success looks like day-to-day? Have they met anyone in your company for more than 60 minutes? They may grow to build a genuine passion for what you do and act as an ambassador to spread the word. But before they start, if they're able to tell you 'why they want to work here' effectively then they need more information. It's your job to give it to them. 😀

Every job is a learning opportunity. I learned how about #sales by working at JCPenney as a Fine Jewelry Expert. I learned how to actively listen, how to #consult customers on different products, and how to build lasting relationships with those customers. I learned how to manage #inventory and the importance of #merchandising. These skills have become invaluable to me. My time at call centers taught me #timemanagement and how to respectfully and politely control a call. I learned how to create a connection with just my voice. I learned some of the best #deescalation tactics known to man. Working in banking, particularly in the fraud department, taught me how to protect myself from #scams. I learned #empathy and #compassion. I learned how to keep my cool under pressure. I learned how to trust my instincts and was able to hone my investigative skills. And finally, working with startups taught me #flexibility. I learned how to pivot on a dime. I learned how to be an effective #leader. I learned how to manage a team virtually and how to create a fun and supportive environment in a #remote setting. I learned true #projectmanagement and #resourcefulness. Take every job as a learning lesson. Even if it's not the job you want to make into a career. I promise you, there's always something to learn. #opentowork
