Today, I am proud to share a project that is near and dear to my heart. My entire life I have witnessed my father - a cardiac electrophysiologist - dedicate countless hours and immeasurable energy to caring for patients and their families. Still today, his daily experiences at the bedside shape how I view public policies in healthcare and drive me to find solutions that make the jobs of clinicians just a little bit easier. As we launch the Novant Health Center for Public Policy Solutions, my hope is that we can elevate the voices of doctors like my dad and other clinicians who care enough to make caring for others their career. We've long understood that people need people to be healthy. New claims data out today validates our human-centered approach, demonstrating the power of in-person social support to not only improve quality of life for members, but significantly impact medical costs and healthcare utilization. In this study of 2,300+ Medicare Advantage members, individuals who took at least one Papa visit experienced a 9% reduction in medical costs and demonstrated more informed use of healthcare services, often opting for lower-cost care and recovery at home over more expensive in-patient services.
