Feel I am in some type of time warp! Still on my way to Puerto Madryn. Started the journey on 9 November in London. Now 11 November and made it to Buenos Aires; missed 2 nights sleep and feel like I am in the movie the terminal. Terrible weather, which even resulted in getting the #taylorswift gig delayed, anf got our flight cancelled. All flights were cancelled so just imagine mayhem times 10. The positive is that I have now met 15 of the Homeward Bounders and in an unexpected situation we have proven we can work in partnership. Some on luggage recovery duties ( successful even though we started without any knowledge of each others luggage colour/ shape etc) others to Be resourceful in getting the tickets rebooked for all to a new airport in the morning - we mastered it. The 4 am flight to Trelew!, this is now also delayed but I have faith that we will get there. Once in Trelew we have a 45 min bus ride ( also now arranged) ready for the 8:30 programme start! Wow if we can arrange this as 15 women who have never met in person before yesterday and in a few hours we working as a team. But while majority of the company provides good facility but still there are companies in the interiors where the life of these employee are very difficult. Some of the point are mentioned below The problem of subpar housing with a demanding work environment has remained in several Middle Eastern nations, especially for foreign employees. The limited housing facilities offered by employers frequently result in terrible living conditions for a large number of international workers. The standard of living may be lowered in these accommodations because to a lack of essential facilities, hygienic conditions, and safety precautions. Moreover, the working culture in certain Middle Eastern countries can be demanding and may not align with international labor standards. Long working hours, limited job security, and inadequate legal protections for workers contribute to a challenging environment. Expatriates may find themselves facing difficulties in adapting to cultural differences, hierarchical structures, and communication barriers within the workplace. Confusing and maybe exploitative employment arrangement traps foreign workers. Problems are made worse by language problems, which make it harder to understand terminology and rights. The recent USCIS-Atlanta Field Office QTR 3 Stakeholder Meeting held in June 2024, had USCIS Field Office Director Micah Brown, share highlights of efforts to expedite adjustment and naturalization applications. Key takeaways from his community engagement were: ·        Adding Saturdays to the Naturalization interview schedule, through the Fall and Summer 2024, in addition to the 2 times daily schedule on weekdays; ·        Increase in offsite locations for Naturalization ceremonies; ·        Providing special drop off days for RFE responses relating to submission of medicals for Adjustment applications, to facilitate timely USCIS receipt, in light of the current USPS postal delays in Atlanta; ·        Additional days have been allotted for employment based adjustment interviews; ·        Multiple criteria are used to determine the need for Adjustment application interviews including: whether the filing is complete or not; whether there has been a change of employers; and whether an issue has arisen in the background check of the applicant Director Brown shared that the Greater Atlanta area is rapidly growing with current population at 6 ½ million approx. After the Washington DC area, it is the fastest growing region for US immigration. However, the specifics of this program are still in the early stages of development and have yet to be finalised. Nevertheless, it promises to offer a valuable platform for skilled professionals to gain recognition and connect through a nationwide skills passport system…” remarked Wee-Oon Chief Executive from OZemployment. This passport system aims to facilitate workers in showcasing their comprehensive qualifications, micro-credentials, prior educational achievements, workplace experience, and general proficiencies. Under this proposal, a professional worker's qualifications would be securely stored in a digital format, much like My Health Record national system. Furthermore, it is anticipated to unify various reform initiatives, including changes to the migration system, under a single overarching framework. "The positive impact is achieved through the sharing of data among professionals and employers. However, when we look at skills data for a group or population, its significance grows even further.
