You don’t need all of your team members to be 100% devoted to the mission and purpose of your company to be successful. It’s like the old Mounds and Almond Joy commercials. Sometimes you do. Sometimes you don’t. Some companies do. Some don’t. Some employees do. Some don’t. You do need all of your team members to be devoted to: ▶ doing the job you hired them for, ▶ doing excellent work, ▶ learning, improving, and growing, ▶ being a great team member. You need people who ▶ you truly believe in, ▶ who truly believe in themselves, ▶ who truly believe in you. If you get all of that, does the person you hire really need to be a true believer too? Sure, it’s nice if your team is passionate about your mission and purpose. But, it’s not strictly necessary for people to do great work and contribute tremendously to your success. Make sure you’re really clear about your true needs. Who on your team needs to be 100% devoted? If you’re not and you make it a requirement for all positions, you just might be missing out on some very talented people who could make a big impact for you.

Around 53% of financial access is given to the private sector, especially in 2023. On average, there has been a 27% increase in loans over the last three years. Among the estimated 120 million people, an average of 2 million private sector entities took out loans, accounting for approximately 1.6%. A large number of SMEs receive credit from Microfinance Institutions, but only have access to 7% of the total financial access. The share of public bank loans was 77% ten years ago, but now it has decreased to 48.5%, with private bank loans increasing from 23% to 53.5%. Generally, there is an increase in the demand for loans, however, banks face challenges related to leverage and deposit growth. Simultaneously, deposit growth is currently at 25% in private banks, public deposits have increased by 27%, while deposit growth in the private sector stands at 22% and public bank deposit rate is 25% in 2023. Liquidity is a problem. Personally, I also need access to finance but have no collateral. Do any of you have collateral? However, the bank requires collateral, which is also a problem. Oh, I have not repaid the loan I took for unplanned expenses from my wife. Do you have similar scenarios? Banks in Ethiopia also face problems with defaulted or expired loans and full default. Both banks and the private sector need to work on appraisals for repayment, and banks should reduce collateral requirements. Inflation also plays a role in the problem of financial access in the background. These are the notes I took from the panel discussion with experts from the National Bank, Development Bank, Private Banks, and international Banking service organizations today at the Interluxury Hotel, Addis Ababa. On a personal note, the implementation of the Capital Market will solve most issues. Until then, I hope that the manufacturing, construction, import-export, and agricultural sectors can overcome these financial access challenges. Oh, and myself too.

The future of Ghana's Internet is upon us. The end goal is to combine the value of Starlink and 5G on a secured SASE platform like Cradlepoint's Net-Cloud. The value of combining 4GLTE, 5G and Starlink solutions with Zero-Trust Cyber Security Architecture is non-negotiable for all critical sectors of Ghana's economy. We believe if SpaceX's Starlink could be duly represented in Ghana through a competent local entity like Galaxy Aerospace Ghana then Cradlepoint EMEA, part of Ericsson could also be represented with us and a leading Telco in Ghana on the back of The White House's investments into a first-of-its-kind Cloud/Carrier Neutral Data Center in the capital city of Ghana geared towards attracting various US multinationals and reduction of internet costs in Ghana. Ya’ll - read Bethany Wroe's post 👇 This is how you treat candidates. You give them an update. You communicate with them like a human. You know the market and are prepared for the volume of candidates (and actually review their resumes). You don’t make candidates “bid” against each other (and themselves) by asking their pay requirements. It’s not rocket-science and it's not hard. People remember how you behave when the tide is high - AND when it is low. To the talent folks out there representing crappy TA practices - we know you don't always have decision-rights (deep sigh) but please try to make changes in your org. You never know when you might be back in the talent pool.
