In my latest article, I explain how the music industry using its cultural influence to promote sustainability can be crucial to catalyze meaningful change and contribute to the emergence of a more environmentally conscious culture. I also present some examples of artists as catalyst leaders and known good practices in the industry. Thanks, B Lab U.S. & Canada

Let's talk sustainability in the music industry. We all love festivals, concerts, and shows. But do we think about the environmental impact? Touring can have a massive carbon footprint, and artists, producers, and fans need to think about how we can reduce it. At Heartfeldt, we believe in sustainability. That's why we've implemented eco-friendly strategies like: - Using reusable cups at shows - Banning single-use plastic bottles - Using green energy at shows - Replacing CO2 cannons with hydrogen - Using confetti that self-dissolves It may not sound like much, but these small actions add up and can make a significant difference. We all have a role in protecting the planet, and the music industry can lead the way. What are some other sustainable practices you'd like to see in the music industry?

Guiding leaders to grow their positive impact in the world | Author: ‘Becoming a Conscious Leader’ | Founder: The Conscious Leader Toolbox
A new standard for the music industry: I hadn't put these two together yet, but it sure makes sense: Coldplay's groundbreaking move in setting a new bar for sustainability in the music industry during their 'Music of the Spheres' world tour, involving: * kinetic dance floors (where audience jumping powers batteries for lighting) * bikes (for the same effect) * a tourable battery system * funding two solar-powered “ocean cleanup river interceptors” * a tree planted for every ticket sold (7 million) * using public transport (rockstar arriving by train to Cardiff!) "Coldplay’s success in lowering its carbon footprint has established a new standard for sustainability in the music industry. Their creative techniques and dedication to eco-friendly procedures show that large-scale events can be both enjoyable and environmentally responsible. As more artists and bands attempt to follow suit, Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres tour is a striking example of how the business may move toward a more environmentally friendly future." See Possibility, Seize Opportunity Many years ago when I was running a music festival with a group of music students, one of the second year students told me she wanted to ask Renee Geyer to run the singing workshop. She also told me that the rest of the class had laughed at her. How could she possibly get Renee Geyer to come? I asked her if she had asked Renee Geyer. "No" was the reply. Me, "Then how do you know she won't come". I added "if you ask and she saids "no" are you worse off than you are now?" The end result was that Renee Geyer came and gave the workshop, and mentored the student for 12 months. A few years ago I had an opportunity to invest in a startup. I decided to invest in myself instead and booked a trip to an innovation conference - in Boston! After falling in love with NYC a few years ago, I was determined to visit there again, so I chose to land at JFK and see if I could magic up a few meetings. I aimed high - Simon Sinek, Arianna Huffington - got the picture? I decided to take my own advice - "don't ask, don't get"... The final result was a meeting with the wonderful Larry McCullough - author, musician, arts champion and one of the founding team members of SXSW. And next week I will presenting at SXSW. I was also asked to blog for Arianna Huffington. And 'asking' also allowed me to secure three more important opportunities. Dr Terese Amabile is a researcher of 'motivation' both intrinsic and extrinsic and while I couldn't meet up with her, I had a half hour telephone interview with her. And re the innovation conference, Dr Peter Keon agreed that I could use his workshop as part of my PhD research. So for all my efforts, I was a Skype meeting, one face to face meeting, one phone interview and permitted to include an international workshop in my research, better off than I had been before. Had I not asked, nothing would have happened. And Marc Randolph would not have written the forward for my book, Celebrating Success One Failure at a Time. You can read about that in a previous post on January 10. So I can confirm my mantra - "Don't ask, Don't get" and recommend you give it a go. I love it so much I had a calligraphist draw it for me. Be careful what you ask for because you are likely to get it. #dontasksontget #courage #possibility #continuouslearning

The economic cost of climate change is larger than the cost of measures to reduce it. 💪💼🌍 👥 Audience Concern: Nearly two-thirds of consumers surveyed stated that the environment is important to them. Over 70% of millennial music festival goers take positive actions to reduce their carbon footprint during events. 🌍🎶👥 💡 Positive Work: Half of music festivals have sustainability policies, but 14% show no sustainability actions or data on their websites. The music industry has an important role to play in climate action efforts (play here has multiple meanings). And despite its environmental footprint, "about 75% of a concert’s carbon footprint is from fans traveling to and from the venue, not from musicians." Creating cities that are music-friendly, musician-friendly, and music-fans-friendly requires city-wide strategies that goes beyond the music industry. Those are the challenges that #UNESCO #CreativeCitiesNetwork is trying to address. As a #CityofMusic how can we leverage the arts to co-create sustainable and inclusive cities? #LondonCityofMusic https://lnkd.in/gEyihBNX https://lnkd.in/gEyihBNX

Thrilled to share the results of our study with ClimeCo on the state of sustainability efforts in the music industry. A key finding is that all groups interviewed recognized the importance of sustainability efforts and indicated that they are actively working to improve in this area. Also, there was substantial overlap among the various survey groups in identifying possible areas of focus, but the options were prioritized differently based on role and functional area. #sustainablemusic #greenmusicindustry #musicinnovation #climateactioninmusic #musicforchange #musicindustry #musicbusiness #togetherwecandomore #collaborationforchange
