CEO Nona Yehia visited our Westbrook, ME farm last week and was psych'd to see the progress made installing our state-of-the-art growing systems - the team has been busy rackin' and stackin'! She also met with local leaders and sustainability-minded members of the Maine culinary community. Can't wait to see these racks filled with gorgeous green!

Our farm advisors really do get to see the best views in the Ribble Catchment!
This is Jeffrey Hill, nestled between Chipping and Longridge in the gorgeous Forest of Bowland.
It's a popular spot for outdoor adventurers, but it's farming that we're focussed on. Our farm advisors visit farmers and landowners in strategic areas across the catchment to give them help, advice, and guidance on the little things they can do to make their farm businesses more river friendly.
Because our farm advisors are all farmers themselves, they've got a perfect perspective on how important it is to balance looking after the land with balancing the books. So, they’re experts on all things agriculture.

📣 Grants reminder
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is offering $10,000-$1m Capacity Building grants (applications close 28 March) and $250,000-$5m Partnerships and Innovation grants (applications close 8 April) through the Climate-Smart Agriculture Program.
Agricultural sustainability, productivity, and competitiveness is critical to the livelihoods of our farmers and our export markets👩🌾🌾
That’s why the Australian Government has committed $302.1 million to the Climate-Smart Agriculture Program under the Natural Heritage Trust.
Through effective on-ground projects, farmers will be supported to manage climate risks and invest in their on-farm natural capital and effective natural resources management, helping the sector to respond to climate change, better withstand future bushfires, floods and droughts and protect its productivity.

Did you know that there is between $20 and $40 billion...yes, that is with a "B", in the Inflation Reduction Act appropriated to agriculture, forestry and conservation?
Did you know that there are tax credits attributable to renewable fuels manufacturing that can also be passed along to farmers?
The question that really needs to be asked...Do you know the policies and programs that your operation might be eligible to participate?
In the latest episode of Vision Tech Perspectives, Doug and Dave discuss some of the opportunities for agribusinesses, farmers and ranchers to take advantage of cost share on implementing new technologies, services and practices on their operations or premiums on the products/crops that they produce.
Listen in and hear more on possible opportunities for your operation.

I’m excited to share that two grant rounds worth $54 million opened today under the #ClimateSmartAgriculture Program to help farmers, land managers, industry and rural communities with the transition to a more sustainable sector.
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is managing partnerships and innovation grants of up to $5 million to encourage development of innovative tools and on-ground sustainable agriculture practices.
Capacity Building grants of up to $1 million will increase awareness of climate-smart practices among #farmers, #communities, #FirstNations groups and the broader sector to drive on-farm action.

[AG: These initiatives to support farmers through one-on-one assistance and climate-smart agriculture programs, while well-intentioned, may not be the most effective use of taxpayer money.
These programs, which aim to provide farmers with information, funding opportunities and networking connections, could potentially be replaced by a more sustainable and comprehensive solution.
Instead of investing in temporary positions and ad-hoc projects, a more efficient strategy would be to establish a national entity and develop a centralized digital platform for our agricultural sector, offering several advantages:
• Long-term sustainability: A national entity would provide continuous support to farmers and growers, unlike short-term projects that may end when funding runs out.
• Cost-effectiveness: A centralized digital platform, including a website and smartphone application, would be more cost-effective in the long run compared to hiring individual facilitators across the country.
• Unified representation: The Australian fresh produce and food producing industry suffers from fragmented representation, with numerous state, federal and national organizations often working in isolation. A national entity could help unify these efforts and provide a stronger voice for the industry.
• Improved transparency: A centralized platform could offer real-time updates and the latest news about the fresh produce and food producing industry, addressing the current lack of transparency in our food supply chain.
• Streamlined communication: A digital platform would facilitate direct communication between farmers, growers and other stakeholders, reducing the need for unnecessary intermediaries in the post-farm gate supply chain.
• Access to information: Farmers and growers would have instant access to crucial information, including market trends, best practices and funding opportunities, all in one place.
• Community building: A national platform would foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing among farmers and growers across the country, strengthening the industry as a whole.
The government's current initiatives show support for agriculture, but a long-term strategy is needed. Investing in a national entity and a comprehensive digital platform would create a more united, efficient, and resilient agricultural industry, better serving farmers and growers for years to come.]

Farmers can now access one-on-one support to develop sustainable agricultural practices.
Thanks to $40.7 million from Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry there will be a network of facilitators spread across the country.
Employed by NRM Regions Australia, the facilitators will help farmers, landholders and community groups by providing:
✅ The latest information
✅ Funding opportunities
✅ Connecting with others
The facilitators will work closely with the Regional Soil Coordinators providing a point of contact on all things climate, sustainability and soil.

Soil Association Scotland has been working closely with The Woodland Trust Scotland in recent years to build the case for better integration of trees on farms and crofts.
Trees help regulate growing conditions, benefiting crops and livestock by offering shelter from wind and rain, stabilising soil temperature, reducing soil erosion, and enhancing soil fertility. They can also produce valuable materials for farm use or sale, including timber, fruit, firewood, and fodder - and deliver essential ecosystem services such as reducing pollutants in watercourses, improving water management, absorbing atmospheric carbon, and providing vital habitats for wildlife.
I have just signed up to the The Woodland Trust Scotland 'Farm Tree Payments' campaign urging Scottish Ministers to provide support for farmers and crofters to integrate trees into their systems. You can help farming and nature by adding your signature to the letter to the Scottish Government at the link below 👍 🌳 🐄

We’re proud to be launching a new industry-leading resource for Tasmanian farmers.
The Tree Alliance Knowledge Hub from @privateforeststasmania explores the ‘hows’ and ‘whys’ of growing trees.
Developed with farmers and forestry experts, the Knowledge Hub is packed with information, resources, videos, case studies and fact sheets – created especially for Tasmanian farmers.
Every aspect of going trees, from planning to planting, to pruning, to harvesting, is covered. There’s also information about the huge range of benefits trees bring to farm health, business productivity and the environment.
There’s no one-size-fits-all solution. Trees should be designed around a farm’s needs (and the farmer’s goals). The Knowledge Hub sets farmers up with the information so they can decide if and how trees could work for them.
Check out the Knowledge Hub and start exploring the interactive farm map today.
Visit treealliance.com.au. Together, we can plant trees for the future.

Project Drawdown focus on food, agriculture, and land/water use.
“How can we reduce the pressures on ecosystems and land, while meeting the growing demands for food and fiber worldwide? How can we manage land and other resources that provide food better, tending it in ways that decrease emissions from agriculture, fisheries, and forestry?
The answers to these questions are critical for stemming greenhouse gases, sustaining the planet’s living systems, addressing food security, and protecting human health, all inextricably linked. Solutions in this sector are focused on waste and diets, ecosystem protection, and better agriculture practices.”
